  1. Hi 87- OFF TOPIC Is your username any way related to the FA Cup final in 1987. The final that my beloved Coventry City FC won against Spurs & the game that the legend 'Lloyd McGrath' had Glen Hoddle in his pocket throughout the whole game? Best of luck btw
  2. Well said Mike. Can everyone else remember when they were new to this wonderful life? I can, I was garbage & spent the 1st 2 weeks banging my head in exactly the same place. Still do it now......... It does take all sorts & my new mantra is if I aint got nowt good to say I aint saying it.........
  3. I saw Bruce & the E street boys at Roundhay Park in Leeds summer of 85. Nearly a 3 hour gig............ Thing is, he can still do it today. RIP Clarence Clemons. Legend! I have still have all their stuff on vinyl. Again, as a contrast, I have all of Luther Vandross' albums on vinyl too. 'The night I fell in love' makes my knees buckle. The point is we all have tastes. I do not like marmite but love doughnuts LOL. My last input, I promise......... My favourite remixes (stay with me on this) of all time are IMO; 1. Michael Jackson- Rock with you - 'Frankie Knuckles remix' 9mins. Long keyboard led intro & it's so understated it's brilliant- WOW. 2. ZZ Top- Legs- 'Metal Mix' 7mins. Played that at a rave too back in the distant past. Gotta love ZeeZee. Both on Youtube The Sonic
  4. Have a listen to 'Royal Blood', album just released. A young 2 piece that create a genius sound for those that like a slightly heavier guitar sound than the normal indie stuff. Amazing! There is tonnes of brilliant new music. Search it out online............. However, avoid most daytime radio & stick to more specialist shows in the evening or the internet radio stations. I still prefer the sound of vinyl ran through a decent set up with topnotch full scope speakers. I used to own 10,00 vinyl Albums & 12'' singles but sold most. I still have 1000+ CD's but have not got a single MP3 / wav file. I have have a very wide taste & currently love Northern Soul. I went to a Scooter gig a couple of weeks back & it reminded me what a great sound it is. Enjoy & hunt out the new.............. some is ace! To nearly spoil my post I used to be a DJ in the summer of love 88 & 89. Got arrested having carried to full record boxes across a field........ Amazing times though.......... I remember playing Carly Simon's 'Why' (93 BPM) infront of 8,000 people in the 'Balearic' part of my set, followed by Soul II Soul's 'Keep on Movin (95bpm). I also went to Caister & prestatyn Soul Weekenders but as a balance mosh pitted to Nine inch Nails............... Music is the Answer in my eyes........ I also dance at EVERY party I go too. You know the type...... LOL Ronniesonic out! Dead Kennedy's !................ Love it......... Seen them Live too! If you don't like Rap try 'Del a Soul'......... Happy Rap with a 'daisy' feel & they even sample Steely Dan! (amoungst others) To not bore you anymore I am going to walk the hound......................
  5. More importantly, can we have a forum definitive on how the 'D' word should be spelt. Mr Ambrose still chooses 'donut' which I think is plain lazy & he is just trying to be cool. It a shame as he seems a decent chap............ Is it too early for a custard one? And while I await clarity on the above can I add this. What is 'ice coffee' all about. Mrs Sonic had one yesterday with caramel in it. Shall I try one?
  6. Phill- I am now keen to find out more about what actually happend. Your post is very reasoned & despite what you perceive I am totally in favour of civil liberties. I suppose the central debate is about the boundaries of liberty & the interpretation thereof, when two sides see a situation differently. As you quite rightly point out, we can only speculate without facts. I do find it very beneficial to read the 'legal' posts from the likes of youself, Nigel & Mayallid. I have learned from the collective points made.
  7. I used the word 'illegally' from the opening post . So Phill, are you of the belief that the 'authorities' have acted unlawfully in carrying out their actions?
  8. If they had not moored illegally there would not have been the requirement for any action. Paramilitary private Army? Surely you cannot be serious.
  9. I have just eaten a custard doughnut, on it's own.........
  10. Surely you need to smoke a big bag of weed before dreaming up that as a munchie? Shakespeare would not approve! A Lemon curd & banana 'slightly' toasted sandwich was my 3am snack of choice in 1986, after too many Diamond White's.
  11. This forum & finally this fascinating thread has singlehandedly (sorry) reignighted my love hate relationship with Donuts. In the last 6 weeks I have put on over a stone. Donuts & fat coffee stylee........... This offence is far more serious than any written word of 'Julynian'. 'Mr P Nulife' has a lot to answer for as I perceive him to be the prime candidate for 'donut' exile to the Darkside for 1 month minimum. How do you plead Sir? (why are they so fattening........................................ as it's impossible, repeat impossible, repeat impossible, to only consume one. Akin to alcohol. Bloody fuming me! Damn service stations with those displays, 10,000 varieties, all of which I like, will be the death of me!
  12. is it me or does this map (assuming it will become 'guidance') do exactly what C&RT is trying to stop? ie; the CM'er issue of trudling back & forth in a small area even when declaring themselves as a CC'er? Having had a gander it will ensure a lot will now have to move even less distance than they do now? As mentioned earlier, Milton Keynes is a prime example.
  13. simply fantastic Starry! I love your quirky written obsevations.
  14. It appears our opinions & the way we express them are polarised.
  15. If you wish I could expand on the 'piss taker' phrase & dress it up all nice & perhaps score a few more scrabble points? Intelligent debate? No, scaremongering to the extreme more like. Examination of procedures & behaviours in Social media...... Pleassssse, let me go back to 1984 now!
  16. This thread is making me a tad cross. Does anyone actually think that C&RT want to railroad the enjoyment of the majority who abide by the rules? Of course they don't. They only want to focus on the handful that blatantly take the piss. No apologies for getting straight to the point but this is scaremongering of the highest order. GPS tracking x 34,000 boats or nailing yourself to a bridge hole & having your photo taken to prove where you have been. Dont be daft! I think that some folks should actually get out on their botas & forget their Lappies & Phones for a bit.................. A newbie to this site, reading this thread, would be looking for a rafter to swing about from. Norma & Bert can & should rest easy on their boat assuming they do not take the piss & avoid a level of arrogance toward C&RT that would wind the Pope up!
  17. A funky old couple near to us have one of those mahoozive motor homes. On the back in big letters it displays......... 'Adventure before dementia'. Being a saddo, I quite like it.
  18. Morning folks- The local rag reports what we have heard on the grapevine. It's the raised bit on the 'Oxford' side. I had spoken at length with the Contractors doing the 'sample' testing etc last year. I understand the owners mean business if they get approval. Not short of a bob or two......... I guess the queue at the 'Hound' will be even longer on a balmy summer's afternoon........ oh well. Thoughts anyone? I actually love our C&RT mooring right next to the pumphouse on the Coventry side, so not sure it would suit us. http://www.coventrytelegraph.net/news/coventry-news/longford-canal-marina-plan-set-7475882 Hope the linky works.......... The Sonic EDITED as spelt 'balmy' as 'blimy'
  19. Another thumbs up to Nigel from me . I enjoy trying to decipher some of the points being made. However I was always a 7 out of 10'er at School LOL. Anyway, can we get back to the alleged pisstaker in question??
  20. RANT- 19 pages in.............. I for one am sick to the back teeth of the minority of absolute blatant arrogant know it all pisstakers. You can ponce it up all you want with legal speak trying to hide behind 'clause 2abcz/i' or whatever, but it does not change a thing. anyhow, it keeps the muppets on NBW happy with their digraceful trigger happy 'anti C&RT' propoganda BS! RANT over.............
  21. Another blatant piss taker who is in the xtreme minority, Narrowmindedworld get another ill-informed opportunity to hang C&RT by the goolies. etc etc............. I personally am more concerned about the crap NBW keep spouting in their personal agenda against authority, especially C&RT. Unfortunately lots of people do look a NBW & read their constant sniping. It is a very very poor media outlet. C&RT do not just drag complete pisstakers like this to court for nothing & do not worry they will not be chasing Maud & Cyril of their VM on a balmy Saturday evening. Give me strength!
  22. 'Great tits & Swallows' on a Monday morning are the best.............................
  23. Good morning all- Really enjoyed yesterday. Very eventful. Arrived by car albeit aquaplane (spell check?). Nearly pooped me pants! Nipped to Daventry before entering to buy x2 girly brollies & when we parked at the Boathouse it stopped raining! Met Starry & bored MTB about ensuring a Morco boiler does not kill us! Nice to meet you both, albeit briefly. I agree, even at lunchtime, the music in the beer tent was a little too loud & poor old Tim & Pru went outside. However, Donna got a couple of selfies with Pru.......... I did say 'Basil' for comedic value. Pru did her best not to roll her eyes! What a lovely lady. Watched the boats, had another beer, this time at the Boathouse & had a feed on their 2 for 1. Do they not realise we are not stupid though. Each meal is twice the cost it should be! Met a junior school friend who I had not seen since June 1979! I recognised him & eventually he likewise. He is mates with the owner of Hasty, who was built by my mate Dave Ross (Brinklow). Small world eh. Now, decision made. Going back today. Taking brother in law (he dont know yet). Mad as a hatter, owns 6 Triumph bikes & his mother was Samuel Barlow's younger sister. I will be warned that he cannot buy a boat! My sister will be very annoyed. He is a lot older than me, but like an 18yr old & hope to discuss 'Barlow's with anyone interested. He can put many incorrect 'facts' right! I am not changing my clothes so I will have the same T shirt. 'Sid James on a BMX'. Say hello if you want. Have a great day all. I like MTB's hat & my fave boat at the moment is 'Barrow'. The 'Sid' engine is ace! Im so fickle as 'Sickle' sorry) was was previous fave boat. We hope to get our boat back in '2 weeks'......... The Sonic
  24. Late to the party but I have taken a dislike to Hornets / whatever they are. 5am last Saturday morning, outside hanging up the Missus bloomers & a like, wearing my flop flips & jimjams. What a beautiful morning I thought. Heard a loud buzzing sound. Huck dee! I whispered. It was mazzive & I have never seen anything like it before. I downed aforementioned washing & did that slow then quicker walk up the garden. Very much larry Graysonesque. The blighter followed me so about turn & I weaved back to the Hooose. It got closer & uncontrollably I screamed, ran inside & shut the door behind me. I swear it stuck around for hours casting a shadow everytime it fly past. Anyway, these should be in the jungle only & regardless of what the Springwatch mob say I would have smashed it with anything I could get my hands on........ If I had not ran away that is. So im with the 'not in my house' brigade all the way............
  25. Mike- I assume you are comparing 'like' for like. ie; no mortgage on the house etc, then costs can be compared? Because from my perspective, just going through house sale (GULP) we will be minimum 50% better off with the tub compared with the hooooose. Having said this, the beer token drawer will be opened & closed more often..........
