  1. Tried numerous times over seven days using the numbers supplied on the CWDF with same result. Always very busy. Last Monday my wife (trying to help) picked up the phone, dialled the number and was answered straight away. Got my new licence today. Must be a 'woman' thing. John Hinch
  2. Mine does the same. Believe it is caused by the return spring on the injector rack being stronger than the friction bars on the control box. Usually hang a piling hook on the lever, which seems to counter it. I call it my 'cruise control' Have tried using counter springs at the throttle adjustment end, but they increased the tick-over. John Hinch.
  3. Saw a boater once sling three full gas bottles on the opposite side whilst he painted the waterline. Tilted the boat a treat. John H
  4. How about a whole new post, with pictures, entitled " The Bridge/Tunnel/Boat/Bank, that Guy collided with" I don't have any pictures at present but I'm sure someone out there could quickly take some of collapsed bridges etc and display them.
  5. You must have been at the spirits bar. John H.
  6. How about trying the Patents Office (design). Don't know if boat builders apply for a patent on their designs, but they may just have the plans on file. Good luck John H.

  8. Where does it say he's from British West Hartlepool ???? Go for it boney lad, the money you save off a cheap second hand boat will keep you going for a while. John H.
  9. Just a couple of lads trying to fit out a narrowboat with modern facilities, using Victorian ideas. (Don't believe they had electric pumps or showers on working boats) I thought it was very funny. No swearing, no violence, just a good laugh at their antics. He even tried to instill some civic pride in a passing youth. Now I see were it's going I'll view with a different perspective. Anyway it's got narrowboats in it.!!!!! John H.

  13. Probably the same as has been said on this forum, but what a marvellous idea. I'm sure David Suchet is well known to motor cyclists the world over as 'The Belgian Detective' but possibly not as a narrowboat enthusiast. Poirot using his 'little grey cells' to build a motor cycle. Can you imagine his walk after lapping the I.O.M. TT course at 180mph I'd watch it. ( The programme that is - not his walk) John H.
  14. Have just spoken with my son in Sheffield who knows Guy Martin thro the trade and racing. Lots of motorcycle enthusiasts watched the prog. simply because it was Guy Martin. They all thought it was great. Very funny and Guy at his best. Some even thought the canals looked great and would like to give it a try. The series has already had good write-ups in most of the motor cycle mags who suggest it's well worth a look. Can't be bad, we need all the friends we can get due to the cutbacks. Does the boating fraternity have anyone (apart from David Suchet) who could get thousands of enthusiasts to watch a programn just because it was him regardless of content. Maybe we do need to open our minds.
  15. Just bought a rubber brush from local shop - works fine. Sadly the ducks at our mooring only work nights. Suprising how like a water pump recycling it sounds in middle of the night.
  16. Didn't used to like it at first but after a while it becomes quite addictive. Was thinking about producing an 'Aftershave' which had "The aroma of diesel with a hint of damp". Thought to call it "Engine Bay". Was aimed at the boater or gongoozaler sitting at home wishing. Haven't tried Borax tho. Will hold production till after washday. John H.
  17. Have had phone calls all day from members of the family from all over the U.K.. THEY LOVED IT. They had forgotten the beautiful scenery and the laid-back and friendly attitude of boaters in general (their words). The fact that he was all over the place geographically didn't enter into their enjoyment. They can't wait to come with us again in the summer, so they are now arranging a rota amongst themselves. THANKS GUY _ BLOODY THANKS....... Watchthesen bonneylad ah divent want ya havin a tab on the bowat an dropping yur doddles on me proggy mat. Ya muther doesn't expect to find the mat as clarty as it was before it got to be as posh as it is now. John H.
  18. Apparently he is crossing the aquaduct next week as he leaves Oxford on his way to Llangollen via Lincoln where he is calling in to make a Buckby Can. I'll give it a couple of week and then decide.
  19. And Please---- not the woman from the M & S adverts. " This is not just a canal" . or is she the same one? Would rather have Timothy in a RAHRAH skirt with fishnet tights. ( Come to think of it .....
  20. Not exactly. Was trying to be polite. What he actually said was " That was bloody was close. Bet that blew some candles out. Hope I can get to work in the morning". John H.
  21. What a sad remark Mr Booth. Remember my grandfather saying something like that when we sat in an air-raid shelter in 1940, then to we were being attacked by those who wanted to destroy our ways of life. They failed miserably, although it did take a while and cost an awful lot. But, both he and I survived to see the attackers brought to heel. BW promised and boasted about great things happening, most of which didn't. We haven't been promised anything but reductions for the future. The system is ( in fairness) a lot better than it was in 1972 and will take as while to return to that state. Lets chug on to see what happens. In the meantime I'll dig out my old tarpaulin and crowbar.
  22. The reason you can't see a photon is that it doesn't carry navigation lights - unlike the Starship Enterprise - being capable of Warp Factor 9 (nine times the speed of light) - it has them clearly displayed and is therefore visible to all. PS:- Don't stop pressing the keys GIBBO - have found your posts very informative. John H.

  24. We have a bed/settee in the lounge (doubles for guests). My wife had a bad back/neck so we bought a couple of fireside chairs as replacements. When trying to get them on board I forgot about the width of the front doors and interior bulkheads and had to dismantle the chairs to get them in. Wife loved them but I found I tended to slide forward which eventually caused pain on the back of the thighs. We also found that removing the bed/settee meant we couldn't have guests so we swapped them round again. From experience would suggest a chair with the longest seat you can find with a rising slope from back to front, which may help to hold you upright. With more thought, we would probably have got something like this, but couldn't afford a second go. May also consider a neck cushion. Good luck on your search. Sorry couldn't help more. John H.
