Don't know if this is the right place to post this but I have a Separett Villa 9000, 240volts for sale. Only used for a week after installation ( liquids only) as a down stairs toilet but disability got worse so had to rethink a different type of set-up. It's complete with piping and tubs and instruction manual. Was thinking about £300 but open to offer. Looking at the photo taken further back, it appears as though the boat is slightly out from the bank and leaning at an angle. Could there possibly be an underwater obstruction at that point and it's there to stop unwary boaters running aground.

I think it showed that there has been a big redevelopment of the town and cities of the north. It wasn't all empty rundown mills and factories standing idle but showed a lot had been turned into luxury flats and apartments and would hopefully encourage those who thought it was to give it a visit. It tried to show the fantastic countryside that was to be seen around the canal, although I agree, it did seem to skip over the actual canal. I didn't see a flat cap or a whippet all the way through the programme.

Thanks everyone. Sadly I had a feeling this would be the case. It's going to be a hell of a job removing all the panelling below the gunnel but think I'm just going to have to bite the bullet. Alternatively I could try nailing it on.

When I fitted my narrowboat out I used Fire Retardant Polystyrene foam as insulation. I am shortly having the boat out of the water for a hull survey. If it requires any welding to be done, has anyone an idea of how this type of foam will stand up to the heat from the welding on the outside. I realise the 'Fire Retardant' does not mean 'Fire Proof' so was wondering if anyone on the Forum had experience of using this type of insulation. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks John Hinch.

You don't say if you have checked the fan-belt to see if it's snapped or loose. May be worth a check before paying £135. Sorry didn't see the end of your post stating you'd checked connections.

Whilst doing the Four Counties Ring this year, I went shopping to a super market to stock -up, dressed in boots, shorts, polo shirt, carrying a red rucksack. Two of the staff kept me talking whilst a third rang round the homes to see if anyone was missing. And I'm only 76yrs old.

Remember a canal related story from some years ago which appeared in a magazine or paper- sorry can't remember which, about a group of young girls on a canal boat holiday. The sun had been shining all day and the temperature was so high that you couldn't put your hand on any metal surface. Although they knew it was wrong they decided to stop and moor up in one of the cuttings which was shaded by the embankments above them and the trees which surrounded them. (I always thought it sounded like somewhere on The Shroppie). The sun was still shining though the trees and had that twinkle that you see on a hot day. It remained like this till it got dark, about 9pm.. Suddenly there was a load crack of thunder and the heavens opened. The thunder was so loud it was difficult to hear each other talking. They were taken by surprise when a loud knocking was heard on the side of the boat. Plucking up courage they opened the door and there stood a young women. Her hair was plastered to her face and the long ankle length dress she was wearing was soaked though. They got her inside and gave her towels to dry herself off as she explained that she had had a row with her husband who had hit her so she had ran out of the house. The girls explained that she should report it to the Police as she didn't have to put up with beatings by anyone. The woman then stood up gave a loud laugh and opening the door ran out into the storm shouting as she ran down the towpath that she wouldn't have to, as she had stuck a knife into her husband and killed him. Early the next day the girls arrived at the next village and went searching for a policeman to report the incident,only to be told there hadn't been a policeman in the village for years. They then explained to the pub landlord what had happened. He told them that there had been a murder when a wife stabbed her husband and had ran off in a thunder storm, only, last night had been fine and clear with no rain, but, 120 years ago on that very day, during a thunder storm the murder had occurred and the woman's body had been found floating in the cut several days later after a search.

When I had it examined nearly four years ago the Examiner totalled up the kw on all burners, grill and oven together with the rating for the Alde water heating system and told me I needed so many square inches of ventilation. I even changed the flying saucer type of ventilator for mushroom in order to reach the requirements and my boat is private. If what you say is true then it appears I mistook his 'advice' for 'statutory requirement'. The plus side is I can now have a BBQ inside without any problems.

As long as there is no chance of it sliding about or falling over following an impact of some sort there should be no problem. It can be secured with chains screwed to the bulkhead and hooked onto the cooker which can be quickly removed should you wish to pull the cooker out. May be worth letting your builder know asap as it will effect your ventilation requirements. The BSS examiner will assume you have a boat full of people and are cooking a Christmas dinner using all hob burners and both ovens, together with any other gas appliance you have fitted, all at the same time, with the doors closed. ( At least he did with mine). Finished up with roof and doors full of ventilation holes. John Hinch

No, I hadn't read Gunkels report Theo, I just chose, what for me was the best option. My boat is moored broadside to east and west in a marina. I wanted something to tilt the solar panel to face the sun for as long as possible. I live 180 miles from the boat and don't fancy the idea of a land line connected charger. Am going into hosp shortly for an operation and don't know how long I'll be in or how long it will take me to recuperate after,as I will be having further treatment after the op. It may be some time before I can get back down to the boat. Fortunately friends who do live-aboard in the marina, are going to keep and eye on things and I just wanted to make sure the batteries were up to running the bilge pump (if required) etc.. The batteries are new and were fully charged when I left two weeks ago so they should be alright with a trickle charge. Had the brackets delivered on Thursday. They are what I was looking for and appear to be just the job Are far more robust than as they appear on the site picture. Just thought I'd update in case anyone else is looking for them. John Hinch.

Beware of those 'nappy' things. My son borrowed the boat, found my stock of 'soakerupers' and is now convinced I'm incontinent and just putting on a brave face claiming they're for the bilges.

Have found the brackets on 'Elfresco Bay' priced at £34.99. so decided to bite the bullet and buy these. Did try Shobnall marina, but got no reply. Couldn't find them anywhere else being sold seperately. Thanks again for assistance. John H.
