  1. But the declaration is for the predicted future use of the diesel not what the stuff you have used was used for.
  2. I have found that some LED light bulbs interfere with DAB signals.
  3. My Beta43 and PRM 150 spins about 1 rev per 2 seconds. Certainly wouldn't move the boat. My old Barrus Shire 40 with a PRM 150 did the same.
  4. Yes, Litchfield Canal. http://lhcrt.org.uk/articles/aqueductstory.html
  5. We stayed a week at Yelvertoft a couple of years ago. Seemed like a nice place. There's Crick down the way a bit too. We stayed there for two months and got into the show for free.
  6. I did keep well to the starboard, probably about 2 boat widths from the bank and was on tickover just so I had a bit of steerage. The chap with whom there was nearly a collision was holding onto the moorings outside the sailing club HQ and let go just as my bows got abreast of him. Point taken about the yellow boards. I probably could have stopped but how long would I have had to stem the current in reverse gear before they cleared a way through? Some time I suspect.
  7. We came down the River Severn from Worcester to Gloucester today. A mile or so below Upper Lode Lock there were about 15 small sailing boats generally milling around and tacking to and fro across the width of the river. I know the old rule about power giving way to sail but I was travelling downstream on yellow boards and couldn't really stop. I had to zig zag between them and one came really quite close within about a foot and I had to put on lots of power and move my stern away from him to avoid a collision. What is the etiquette here? Should I have made more effort to stop (stemming the current in reverse) and wait for a suitable gap, or should I just have done what I did slowing to tickover and worked my way through. Or should they have made an effort to clear a path for me?
  8. Thought it was Jenny Wren? Maybe there's two?
  9. Probably frozen. Try pouring a kettle of hot water over it.
  10. There's rumours doing the rounds on facebook that there can be a temporary repair up and running in 3 weeks. Then a stoppage from September to Christmas to fix it properly. But as I say this is only a facebook rumour.
  11. His number a couple of years ago was 07779 114956 . Probably still the same.
  12. Another vote for Sofabed Barn. They bespoke built ours, delivered and installed on our NB.
  13. Sawley is on a cut off the river Trent as is King's Marina in Newark (and no doubt many others. Do they have to pay NAA I wonder. And what about Castle Marina in Nottingham? When we moored for a winter at King's in Newark I'm pretty sure we had to have a valid licence and that CRT came to check it. Is that related to having to pay NAA or is that something different?
  14. Coal boat NB Halsall came through Nantwich on the Shroppie yesterday. They broke a bit of ice. Today I would say if you had to navigate you could. There are sheets of ice but water all around them.
  15. Yes you are correct. However, when going uphill you are taking the lockfull of water out of the pound you are just about to traverse. When going downhill you add the lockfull of water into the pound you are about to traverse. It can make all the difference. Marple flight is not due to open untill 4th May. There's major lock rebuilding going on so there is potential for delays to reopening.
  16. Here's a few. http://seyellas-journey.blogspot.co.uk http://nbharnser.blogspot.co.uk https://narrowboatellis.blogspot.co.uk http://hadarford.blogspot.co.uk http://nbbriarrose.blogspot.co.uk http://www.oleanna.co.uk
  17. Have a chat with these guys. https://www.sofabedbarn.co.uk/18-narrowboat-seating They know all about narrowboats and will build bespoke if you so require. Nice friendly Yorkshire folk who deliver nationwide.
  18. True, but I think I took them off!
  19. I got a couple of cheap head torches and strapped one to each front top corner of the cabin sides. This gave a really good indication of where the roof and cabin sides were in relation to each other. I removed the cratch and pram covers just to be safe. Came through in our 60' without a scrape. Great experience, well worth doing. The CRT chappie was really knowlageble and helpful. It was wierd seeing a train through one of the side passages.
  20. It's difficult putting crew ashore below Gunthorpe lock.
  21. Please correct me if I'm wrong but I can't think of any EA navigations in Yorkshire except maybe the Derwent.
  22. I think a 62 footer would struggle between Wigan and Leeds. I've done it in a 60 footer and was very grateful we didn't have another 2 feet to contend with. Got wet bow and wet stern on a number of occasions. With regards to the Rivers Ouse and Ure up to Ripon, I may be wrong but I think Linton Lock north of York is pretty short and 62 feet might not make it through.
  23. No queue at Grindley Brook today. In fact there was a lock keeper (a full blown employed one) to help us down. However we are now scuppered by the extension of the stoppage at bridge 12.
  24. Our Nicholsons (2006 edition) shows a complicated arrangement of weekdays 09:30 to 10:30 and 14:30 to 15:30, Saturdays 10:00 to 12:00 and Sundays 14:00 to 16:00. But knowing Nicholsons that info was probably wrong even then. You could still easily do the trip to the end and back (about 3 hours each way from the bottom of the flight) in 2 days and you'd be back on the main line by 2pm of day two.
