  2. That sounds like a 'problem' that these 'people' can resolve themselves. If the posting of criticism of C&RT in threads or topics on the occasions when C&RT are clearly and demonstrably getting things wrong offends their sensitivities, then perhaps they should re-examine their own reasons for continuing to partake. As for your remarks implying that we should be grateful for having C&RT because we could have ended up with something even worse, that would seem to suggest that, in fact, your opinion of the Trust and it's performance really isn't that much different. In suggesting the possibility of the canals being sold off to a foreign investor you seem to have forgotten that to sell something, you do need a buyer, and the chances of selling a 200 plus year old, disintegrating canal system that has been a loss maker for most of its' time in existence must be slim, to say the least. You end by saying " it's never really going to help to constantly denigrate them.". . true, much more than that is needed, but how do you think not 'denigrating' C&RT will in itself bring about any improvements ? PS. where do you stand on what I said in #424 ?

  3. Hi and welcome to the forum Have you looked into any other locations other than London? There are other good sized cities scattered about the inland water ways that might be a little easier to get a permanent trading mooring for. Bath / Newbury / Warwick / Milton Keynes / Oxford / Abingdon / Windsor just to name a few As far as a roof top deck on a Wide beam or Dutch Barge style boat, others are doing it, so it can be done. Have a look at the web site for Wessex Rose Hotel Boat for one, if you are having your boat designed you could incorporate a set of steps rather than a ladder to get to the roof deck from your stern area if you have a cruiser stern design. The steps could be designed to collapse so as to not hinder when your actually moving the boat. Obviously there will be some pretty tight H&S concerns you will need to satisfy as far as your roof top deck goes, but doable IMO. Something that will need a considerable amount of research, I would think, is refrigeration for your flowers; & your plans to for supplying power for that refrigeration. Or will you be relying solely on shore power? btw - where abouts in Canada are you from? I'm a Maritimer from Saint John, N.B. please don't let the above lead you in the wrong direction - I'm very much a novice to this boating life style and still on a steep learning curve myself, we've only been on our WB for 9 months

  6. I find it sad and Interesting that posters do not name insurance companies. Then forum members could learn from the info that if their present company wants a survey at 20 years then they can defer it for 5 years or more by changing companies instead of going down the 3rd party route.

  8. 0% is of course not what we are talking about but 3% was CRTs own previous achieveable target so if through more efficient monitoring (which after all is part of the ongoing data collection program on boat movements) this could be achieved rather than 4.5 % mentioned then the additional income would still match the friends financial contributions (I mention friends as these are held up as the way forward for fundraising) or say the cost of supporting the partnerships ((I mention these as they were previously held up as sources of finance rather than an expense) or maybe fund quite a few more enforcement officers which is what many on here have been calling for.

  10. I did but you could also read all of my post as I outlined I was not just writing it down for YOUR interest but my own and may be others. It's not ALL about YOU. Everything else is your opinion against mine. If you addressed the counter points to yours rather than trying to demonstrate your opinion matters more than others or trying to find offence we may understand each other a little more and a debate can advance. Who knows if that post style was used viewpoints may shift Why would that be a better or more effective tactic for CRT?

  11. Recently (past month) the satellite pics on Google Maps with (this computer? our area? everyone?) us went wonky and simply didn't load properly. Reading for a solution on the 'Net I came across this simple advice, click on the question-mark icon and choose to go back to the old version of Google Maps. The old version works fine. Try it (?). I have seen, using different computers/browsers at least 3 different satellite versions, taken from different angles. In the 'old' version Cropredy Marina is still a twinkle in the eyes of the parents. Also, our boat is still in Birmingham (can be seen clearly, even the chimney).

  12. I think that is one of theories you come up with when your your boating experience comes from sitting at a computer reading some of the drivel spoken on here

  13. Actually the first line was that he sometimes has an abrasive style of posting..... so no, I was not painting him as any kind of angel. What I said was, quite clearly, when dealing with anyone with a confrontational attitude you don't go deliberately antagonising them, just disagree..... as I am now.

  15. As far as I am aware the only correct way to moor is to do it without hitting another boat !!!

  16. Just how am I contradicting myself? . . . I think you should read things more carefully before responding.

  17. That's a good point. I would be against banning people who are occasionally disruptive. But where there is a track record of the same individuals, again, and again hijacking the discussion to indulge in their own personal spats, I would say ban them. If they want to start their own discussion group elsewhere, fair enough.
