I know many of you enjoy cruising the Thames, either as Gold Licence holders or visitors.

I would like to invite those of you that do to join the recently formed Thames Motor Boaters Association, an association of owners of powered vessels registered with the Environment Agency for use on the River Thames between Lechlade and Teddington.

You can read all about it on the website - www.tmba.org.uk - and we would welcome your support.

the thames forum and TMBA are both real

my narrowboat is thames based and i do already belong to both of those forums.

free to join and a growing user group which does have some say with EA.

I don't doubt that. It's just that Boatone's first ever post the forum was to post an advert...

Really sorry about that - I am not a narrowboater so have little to contribute but I do take an interest and you will notice I have been a member since August last year.

Not an advert but a genuine invitation - why so hostile ?

I wouldn't have said it was particularly hostile

On the one hand, it is an invitation to join an appropriate group

On the other, it is an advert in a first posting - which is what spammers do here, and get rapidly booted out

So I'd say it was more of a wry comment

Welcome to the forum, not all members are narrowboaters - not all members are boat owners - so I'm sure you will have something useful to contribute. That's the best way to advertise your organisation, by your own character and behaviour

this forum is a mine of technical know -how and of all matters pertaining to boating.

many of the members have a good deal of experience with river and sea boating, they dont just chug from pub to pub on the canal.

actually, the majority probably do chug from pub to ......!?

Welcome to the forum.

Lets just say that your first post did read like an advert/spam and maybe it could have been written a little better.

As Hairy says it did appear like spam and I was in two minds whether to report it for breaking the forum rules.

Now that is over, perhaps your next post could enlighten us as to the history of the association and what you hope to achieve.

We would love to have taken up your invitation to join you on the Thames on our annual holiday cruise but as I said in another post, next week the Thames is closed. Or didn't you know?

Agreed the information is probably there (not clicked on the link) but a little synopsis on the first post would have reduced all the hassle. ;)

As you well know I am a prolific contributor to the YBW Thames Forum which is where my main interests lie. There are only so many hours in the day

I venture to suggest that I am probably far more aware of what is going on on the Thames than you probably are - but, hey, sh*t happens and I believe the stoppages aren't just on the river?
