Oil/gunk/watery stuff under engine

Featured Posts

I had a small diesel leak after I changed my fuel filter, now sorted a seal had got twisted, and the bit under the engine was pretty full.

I've pumped most of it out into containers, but what's an easy way to get the rest out? Or should I just leave it?

Thanks folks!

A couple of packs of disposable nappies - soak it up perfectly.

Any one of these should do the job

I prefer the taller 7 or 9litre items, bit more money but more versatile and, some say, better quality than the cheaper items

Yeah I used one of them, but got to the point where it's mostly sucking air!

I'm not a fan of using disposable nappies(other threads explain why) much prefer to keep a supply of these

They are very tough and well worth the £1 each price tag

similar items are available on eBay in smaller quantities

Just search for "pig diesel mats" (pig is not a typo by the way)

The benefits of the nappies are :

1) Only a fraction of the price  (£4'ish for 48 Vs £25 for 25) &

2) The nappies will absorb water as well, the 'oil spill' pads will not.

If you want a clean and dry bilge the I think nappies are the best option.

Cat litter will soak it up,  not sure if it works out cheaper than disposable nappies though.

How do I get rid of a big heap of oily cat litter under my engine? (Sorry, couldn't resist it)

Use a Kat-Litter pooper scooper and put in in the plastic bags that the nappies came in as you will still need to use the nappies to clear up the remains of the cat litter.
