Have you considered the consequences of what you have suggested?

Yes. It would mean licence holders on more dangerous waters would have to pay more for a licence and be qualified to use them.

You do not need to have completed the RYA course to licence the radio / boat.

You do need a vhf operators license to operate the radio or to supervise some other competent person to operate the radio.

The only way to get the vhf operators license is to do the RYA course.

I think we are about the only country in the world where boaters do not need some form of qualification before being allowed to take control of a boat - be it 'inland' or 'sea'.

I agree - that should change.

A friend has just come past the Marie and she is still there high and dry and very close to the bridge!

I think you would find that everyone pays more.

There are only two forms of licence.  Canal and river or rivers only.

Canal and river licence holders use both so would also pay more.

Perhaps they could introduce a tidal only license!

There is no such thing - I can only assume that you actually means the "Certificate of Competence"

The only LICENCE that can be issued is the "Ship Radio Licence" Issued under the Radio telegraphy Act 2006 (or earlier)

I can see that going down like a lead balloon with those on the canals who never go anywhere near a river, let alone a tidal one...

You'll have to explain, im not as smart as you.

You increase the pay. That money has to come from somewhere.

That money comes from licence payers.

Yes I mean the short range certificate / ships radio license . I have had it a long while ,,,,,, have used the wrong words,,,sorry about  that.

You need that to operate a vhf or to supervise a competent person to operate a vhf.

Apparently according to Facebook there's now tugs in position as the tide comes in....that's not going to be cheap for someone!

Not surprised with how close to the bridge she is!

Exactly.

The tidal waterway users will pay more for their licence, which will pay for any increased admin cost. If the tidal waters are not used, as you suggest,no extra work will be required.

Training will be paid for by the boat owner.

That should keep a lot of boats off the river .

Sounds like a good plan . Please proceed with that immediately .

Makes little sense to me, but as I said, you are smarter!

There is no tidal only option.

It is canal and rivers or rivers only. Simple enough ?

Both use tidal rivers. Therefore both would see an increased fee.

Not rocket science is It?

If you actually read what I wrote, it was a suggested model, not the current situation.

You Seem eager to jump on people without relevant equipment, but are quite happy to accept  people with no suitable qualifications.

A very odd attitude.
