Leece Neville charge light

Featured Posts

I have a Leece Neville 8LHA alternator and would like to fit a charge light. I have been happy to use this alternator over the last five years with out a charge light relying on a volt meter to show an increase in battery voltage when the engine is running. Just like to have a lamp to indicate that the alternator is charging. There are two connections on the back of the alternator +ve and -ve and three AC taps.

Any help would be gratefully received.

There is diagram on their website. I'll look later, big fingers and small screen a bit challenging at the moment. Edited by Eeyore

Stating the obvious I guess, but in most alternator installations, the lamp goes out when it is charging, rather than comes on when it i charging.

Just use one of the ac taps to drive a changeover relay coil; the relay common to switched 12V off the ignition switch and the NC to drive the lamp.

Curious - the 8LHA is a serious bit of heavy duty kit designed to providing full power continuously - more NBs 'ought' to have that style of alternator. It's the only one I've looked at with 3-phase outputs -

What were they actually used for - I assume that they were regulated in effect?

Thank you all for your help.

Davidg for the description, Eeyore for the link to the diagram and Sir Nibble for the part number. I have googled for the part number but nothing came up. I the googled for alternator spares then searched a number of sites for the part again nothing came up. Sir Nibble, do you have a preferred supplier?
