Search Function ---- Default Google

Hi

 

When using the search function in Canalworld it always defaults to google search.

 

Ive had a look through my settings but found nothing to make "Forums" the default.

 

Is this possible?

After typing in your Search criteria and before you click on the magnifying glass, click on the button marked Google and you'll see all of the alternative options ..........

It was changed to improve search results and also it massively reduces the load on our server, which also improves page response times.

Personally I find the google search better for the majority of applications, if not universally better for all searches. Which is why it is the site default, while also retaining the other options. It is also as Paul says faster and places less load on out own server.

 

You are obviously free to use which ever you want and which ever gives you the best results, however as far as I know a user cannot select there own alternative default, no.

If you click on the star to the right of the Search bar you get the forum Advanced Search facility. This does indeed default to Forums, but you can also select Members, Help Files, Calendar, Gallery and Blogs.

 

To get the best results from a Forum search it is necessary to click on Display Results as Posts (rather than the default as a Topic List).

Indeed. But as far as a default option goes that isn't really much different from clicking on 'Google' next to the quick search which gives a drop down menu with similar options (but a quick search only).
