Sanitary (?) Facilities on The Shroppie

Hi,

Brand new to this forum, but not to boating, and in need of a sounding-board concerning the state of the sanitary stations on the Shroppie, where we moor.

As we're in Gnosall, our nearest Elsan doo-dah is at Norbury, and man has that gone downhill in recent times. I remember when, not so long ago, BW actually employed a cleaner, a most excellent person called Roz, who kept Norbury shower block in pristine condition - at this time you could have safely had a shower there, had you wanted to, without risking catching some horrendous disease...nowadays you'd have to be very, very desperate indeed to use the showers.

So fine, most of us don't require that, we've got showers on the our boats of course...but we do all need Elsan emptying facilities (those with pump-outs need read no further!) and at the moment, once again, the ones at Norbury are closed. Prior to this, for weeks, there has been no running water in the facility due to the CRT removing the taps - why? No idea. Weeks and weeks ago, I reiterate....

The facilities at Wheaton Aston may or may not be open - who can say, it's about 50/50 open/closed it seems; and the one at Cut End disappeared when Adam was a lad...

It is the most basic facility of all I reckon, a functioning and CLEAN sanitary station. What we've got at the moment are 19th Century facilities on a 21st Century canal network.

And that's my spleen vented, as 'twere! I've sent CRT an email along the same lines - look forward to some anodyne reply and nowt much happening...

Must away, hadn't realised the time....

I used the showers in Norbury back in July and was pleasantly suprised. I found it to be a nice service block.

I trued to use the showers in Norbury in August but they were out of order, also had the issue of there being no tap on the elsan but somebody left a handy milk container to fetch water from the water point. WA was in full working order.

I recall the one near Autherley. It was pretty vile!

I am concerned that there is no running water in the Elsan though, that just encourages (some) folk to use the drinking water taps for rinsing water, and not everyone is considerate enough to use an old milk bottle:(

Norbury has always had a problem as it has a septic tank and it is difficult to know when it will fill up. Must say never had a problem at WA.

I am not sure why CRT provide showers seems a waste of money maintaining them.

I suppose because not all of us have modern or retrofitted bathroom facilities. I don't have a shower and am very grateful to find proper facilities in good order.
