koukouvagia
I'd recommend without reservation Dave Moore of this parish. He came down south to do our butty, He likes lettering historic boats!

BenC
You better not come back with the shakes!
dave moore
I'm back! Shake less, I think...but that's why my lettering brushes have very long hair, to absorb the shakes - nothing to do with holding lots of paint for painting long strokes!! We'll speak soon. Lovely to see, Banstead paired with its bargee partner. I've seen some great footage of our boats over the past few days thanks to forum members. BenC
Slightly off topic, but the lime juice run that Banstead and other boats carried, in the film from Hemel Hempstead, now B and Q, where were all the limes grown?

Carl Ryan
The lime juice came in at Tilbury and was shipped to Brentford in lighters which were unloaded on the wharf. It arrived in the autumn presumably after it was picked in late summer. We then loaded by crane. Mostly the drums were filled with pulped limes but there was also an occaisional drum which iirc was full of lime oil and had a much higher value and needed extra care. I thought I had been told they came from Ghana but the wikipedia article does not mention africa at all. Carl
Derek R.
It may well have come from Ghana, the wiki entry seems short on facts. Limes can be grown in most tropical and semi-tropical regions, certainly a lot grown in South Africa according to many 'origins' of the fruit. http://za.countrysearch.ec21.com/limes.html Edited September 13, 2014 by Derek R.
