Boatyards in the midlands

Featured Posts

We are wanting essential maintenance doing for electrics, engine, plumbing, gas.

You're not making this easy are you.

electrics and plumbing don't require maintenance, just fixing when they go wrong.

Gas appliances need periodic servicing for which you need a Gas Safe Registered technician if you live aboard. If not, anyone can do it.

Engine servicing is once again a bit of a blank cheque without knowing make and model, and if it has any problems that need sorting out at the same time.

Sorry I don't want to give away too many details about the boat we are trying to buy, I just want to know what boat maintenance/repair etc yards have a good reputation in he midlands.

Impossible to answer. I'd say all of them have upset one or another customer at some stage.

There is one who carried out rather a lot of work appallingly badly and unprofessionally for me, yet I've seen someone else here here speak well of them. Does that mean they have a good or a bad reputation?

You'll have to visit and assess a few yourself, I suggest.

The Midlands covers a huge area - Birmingham, Coventry, Nottingham, Leicester, Lincoln.

Is the boat 'usable'. is it watertight, can you 'motor' to any location, is it a narrowbeam or a 'fatty'

Do you need it on a trailer or lorry to move it ?

Is it metal, fibreglass or wood ?

Inboard diesel or outboard petrol ?

What work is priority and what is 'want to do' work ?

Different yards will have 'specialities' for example if it needs a new steel bottom then its not a lot of use going to a yard that specialises in fibreglass.

Be a little bit more forthcoming, explain the problems and you might get some useful answers

Or the boatyard could come to you, Primrose Engineering for all engine and gearbox related work.

Nearest hire boat place should be able to recommend a gas fitter who works on boats, like wise someone who can deal with plumbing and electrics.

Streethay Wharf on the Coventry near lichfield is long established and does everything from steelwork to engine servicing. Good if you need a variety of work but not as cheap as a small specialist.
