  1. Hi all We did use Stuart and Jo from wemoveanynarrowboat.co.uk and they were fantastic. If anyone is reading this thread looking for someone to move their boat I would highly recommend them. Price was very reasonable for a 10 day trip, they were also able to deliver at the exact day, time and place we requested so we could do the last two days of the move ourselves over a weekend. Our boat broke down half way and as they are gold members of River and Canal Rescue our boat was included in their cover, so someone came and fixed the engine and all we had to pay for was the new part (a filter which was only a few quid). Stuart and Joe also put together a snag list of things which they thought needed our attention which was brilliant as we were both newbies to narrowboats and it was great to chat to some experienced boaters who had spent a good bit of time on our craft. I would also like to add that they are quite lovely, we enjoyed our daily update about the boat and had a eally lovely chat with them when we picked her up. Well above the level of service I was expecting, they are great.
  2. Sorry I don't want to give away too many details about the boat we are trying to buy, I just want to know what boat maintenance/repair etc yards have a good reputation in he midlands.
  3. We are wanting essential maintenance doing for electrics, engine, plumbing, gas.
  4. Thanks everyone for your awesome recommendations, all were added to our second viewing checklist and it the boat passed most. We are now putting in an offer :-)
  5. Hi all Planning on putting in an offer on a boat in the midlands and we know it needs some work doing. Does anyone know any boatyards they would recommend/disregard. Thanks :-)
  6. We haven't ruled out getting a mooring at some point but ideally would much rather travel and explore the waterways, especially to start with. Maybe once we have moved around a bit we will find a place where we want to moor up long term. Then again, what we are really planning to do is more freelance & working from home, spending less time in London and CCing much further afield.
  7. Thanks for al the comments since I was last here, lots added to my check list. East London seems to be bit more chaotic than I thought, what is the CCing like further out as you head towards Guilford/Oxford/Milton Keynes?
  8. No idea either, maybe Betty Boo just wants a fag and is going off topic.
  9. Thanks, I will push the marina to take us out for a spin. They told me they don't normally do this until someone has put in an offer but that seems daft to me, this is our second viewing and we live quite far away from them so they should take us seriously.
  10. Thanks for getting back to me. I have been wanting to live on a boat since I was a (Northern) kid, whilst saving money is obviously an advantage over trying to buy in London it is not the reason we are doing it. Both me and my partner realise this way of life will require more hard work but we are the kind of people that enjoy doing things the hard way, we enjoy the simple things in life and we find them immensely more pleasurable when we put some effort in rather than flicking a switch or microwaving a meal. I appreciate your concern though and apologise if I came across flippant as I am sure this forum is full of ideological dreamers who need a bit of a wake up.
  11. The insulation is spray foam, I will look for the marks you have mentioned and take my camera to look into the dark spots - great tip!
  12. If you're going to be negative please elaborate so I can learn something, this just sounds like you are marking out your territory and trying to scare me off.
