Are we crazy?? Probably.

Le QuecumBar London

Hi there,

You may find it strange that a jazz club has joined this forum! But let me explain.

We're a live music venue which specialises in Gypsy swing and Gypsy jazz music. We're situated in Battersea, London. The music, and our venue is loved around the globe. For a long time we've wanted to get a barge/narrow boat (excuse my naivety), and have it in moored in Amsterdam. We have many connections there with Dutch Gypsies. We have an opportunity with sponsorship to achieve this now and I'm looking for suggestions/assistance/advice from you, the experts, to help us realise our dream....Le QuecumBarge! Get it!

You want to see what we do? Join us on Facebook - Le QuecumBar London, or take a look at our website www.quecumbar.co.uk

So are we crazy? Probably but we wanna do this!!

Welcome to the forum...

There are a small number of European boaters on the forum but you will probably get more relevant help in your quest by joining the DBA.

Thank you.

You sure your not just promoting your jazz club.....

Er we don't need to promote it thanks. We have sponsorship from a major drinks distributor to achieve a real dream.

What about a link to a sample of your music?

Gypsy swing sounds very interesting.

I Loved that! Brilliant!

The suggestion of the DBA forum is sensible since you really need a barge, not a narrowboat. www.barges.org. I can think of several characters there that could help and/or would be very interested in your stuff. I can also think of places in Belgium that could be apt as well as Amsterdam.

Best of luck!

Hey thanks...will check this out. Belgium would be perfect too. Our music venue basically promotes the musicians who play Django Reinhardt...he was from Belgium originally but established Le Hot Club de France...which we've recreated here in Battersea...and wish to duplicate on the canals of Europe!

So, the musical menu is firmly Hot Club de France based? Very tasteful, I hope it continues to bring in the customers.

Judging by the advert on the wall, they can get a decent (if powerful) lager when they get there. "La Seize" (1664) is one of the best French beers but should be approached with caution.

Yep - the DBA is where you need to go, there are also one or two specialist brokers in the UK but I'd seek advice from the DBA first, there are so many different types some will be more suitable than others I guess.

Good luck with this. You will have heard of Diz Disley? One of my guitar heroes when I was younger. Hard not to like this stuff.

It's probably worth you taking a look at apollo duck too- home of many boats for sale. They have boats all over the world and occasionally boats that are current or ex bars and restaurants - that way you may find something already kitted out to suit you- or at least part way there. I'd look but then I'll end up buying another boat , damn I'm probably going to look anyway now...

I took a break to play a couple of Reinhardt/ Hot Club de France records. It reminds me that though (of course) I never saw Django on stage, I did see his bon ami Stephane Grappelli. Ally Pally Jazz Festival about 1980. Such an elegant player. Was anyone else there (well obviously yes, but I mean from the Forum)?

No but I have seen him several times whilst in France and his 80th birthday concert was quite simply the most amazing display of jazz violin playing I have ever seen.

One talented violinist after another playing alongside Grappelli and his band.

Saw Stephane play Leeds Town Hall (in the 70's I think) - - wonderful evening

How deceptive your photo is, David!

Mr. T and Gracie, respeck, as young people like Mr. Payne would say. Come to think of it, how many notable jazz fiddlers have there been? Plenty of cajun ones, a few blues ones e.g. Don "Sugar Cane" Harris, but in jazz.....?

Loved the music - so much that having been a long-term lurker I joined the forum to say so. Hello everyone.

I'm sure your Dutch contacts will tell you about http://www.botentekoop.nl the Dutch equivalent of ApolloDuck. Loads of barges there - that's how we got ours (Not many narrowboats though).

We'll have to venture up to Battersea sometime soon.
