Popular Post rmo Posted March 2 Popular Post Report Posted March 2 Hi everyone, Due to technical issues with VNC earlier today, we've moved the entire site to a new server (Virtual Machine). This is why the site was briefly offline. We had planned to do this anyway, but brought this forward due to the issue mentioned. We're now fully operational on the new server. If you notice any issues, please let us know. Please note, we had to update the DNS settings, and it may take some time for these changes to take effect globally. A small number of users may experience temporary access issues, but this should resolve automatically. The new server (VM) has twice the amount of memory (32GB), double the amount of CPU cores (16) and faster storage. Running the site does incur ongoing costs, and Canal World is fully funded by its members. To help keep us operational for years to come, please consider making a donation here. Thank you! Rich 6
Ange Posted March 2 Report Posted March 2 Thank you Rich for your hard work while most people were sleeping. Much appreciated. 1
Mac of Cygnet Posted March 2 Report Posted March 2 I appreciate Rich's (and the Mods') work as well, but this is the reply I got this morning after I reported VNC wasn't working yesterday: "On 01/03/25, you reported VNC giving empty page as Other Our community team has investigated that report, and this is the outcome: We have reviewed the situation and taken appropriate action according to our Forum Rules & Guidelines. Unfortunately, we are unable to share further details regarding the matter. Thank you for your feedback and understanding as we work to maintain a positive and respectful community environment." Weird, but this is presumably a semi-automated reply to any reported issue.
David Mack Posted March 2 Report Posted March 2 I think that is the standard reply to any report. Declining to state what has been done in response avoids any extended discussion about whether the response was right or reasonable, but does leave the forum member making the report think 'why did I bother?'
MtB Posted March 2 Report Posted March 2 Thanks Rich. And for those who didn't see it, there was a good customised status message instead of a generic "Forum off-line" message displayed. Apparently according to the status message, the forum was not available due to being in the dry dock!
