Chine wear under uxter plate

Featured Posts

Hi, does the chine under the uxter plate on this photo appear to be worn down or was it most likely only narrow originally? It's currently 7.5mm wide including the weld. I wouldn't expect a lot of wear in this area as it should be well protected by the overhanging stern deck.

I suspect that is how it was built. As you say it doesn't get much wear, not like the bottom chine which wears from scraping the bottom when you approach shallow water. I wouldn't worry about it.

Given that the uxter plate is usually cut from the baseplate there is not a lot of scope to have a substantial wear edge.

Make the wear edge  too big and you have to flare the swim plates more, leaving a bloody awkward gap at the top of the stern post, or fill  big gaps all round the V in the uxter.

I saw this yesterday. On hard standing next to us. This boat, the owner told me was moored on the Shroppie for a few years. I agree could be from build. Could it also be constant rubbing from ‘the shelf’? You can see line marks on the Port side.

The boat was in to have additional chines fitted both sides due to wear I believe. I hope the owner doesn’t mind me mentioning this.
