  1. I've finally received the oil I ordered online after waiting for more than a week but it's not the same as the oil I ordered. Could anyone help me out by confirming if the oil I've received is equivalent or still suitable? I ordered the E7 on the first photo and received the E2 in the second photo. Thanks..
  2. What the duck is that? 😅
  3. Thanks for all the help, I'm now more confused about oil specs than when I first asked the question 😅.
  4. The engine isn't new, it's approx 2007 and has just over 3000 hours. I'm thinking of ordering the following if the spec looks correct enough? I'm about to service the engine for the first time since acquiring the boat.. 5. Hi, I'm trying to identify the correct engine oil for a Vetus m4.17. The manual says CC or CD grade 15w - 40 mineral oil. Could anyone confirm if the part synthetic from Halfords would will be ok? If not hopefully the status car care E7 mineral is correct? 6. It's my first time buying a NB. I found that after I'd viewed around 6 to 8 boats I could compare them against each other. After viewing approx 15 boats I ended up going back to one of the previously viewed boats and liked it more than I did on the first viewing. To get an idea if you can get to a marina/broker with a few boats and view 2 or 3 at a time it's obviously easier and quicker than 2 or 3 separate viewings at different locations.
  7. Is there anywhere that can black the bottomplate or just Debdale? The stern tube post and 6 patches of pitting on the hull are being welded this weekend. Along with bitumen blacking and 8 new anodes being fitted. However the bottomplate isn't being blacked because the work is being done in a drydock. I'll hopefully be able to get her out the water again in around a year's time to be inspected, then I'll either arrange for another blacking including the bottomplate or Debdale if affordable at the time.
  8. The educational boat trip from the lift to Northwich town and back is good. Not a bad little tour boat either.
  9. The survey report has arrived. There aren't any recommendations but quite a few advises. Some of the results are attached. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks
  10. She's 57ft, 2007 Mike Christian with Beta 38 engine. Well equipped. Paint and interior in reasonable to good condition. Will hopefully get the full survey report later today to find out the amount and depth of the pitting.
  11. Almost certain. Why do you ask? Would pitting and needing welding not usually be expected on a 16 year old boat?
  12. I'm not sure yet, I'll have to wait for the full survey report in the next couple of days. I just saw pitting and welding and feared the worst.
  13. Hi, I'm in the process of buying my first narrowboat to live aboard. It was surveyed today and I've just received a quick update from the surveyor saying there's some pitting on the hull that needs spot welding. I'll receive the full survey report in the next couple of days. The boat is 16 years old and is for sale for just over 50k. Is pitting that requires spot welding a serious problem? Thanks in advance.
