Colliers Arms, Aspull. Just up the Wigan Road from Bridge 59A, Springs Bridge.

Re-opened in November '23 having been closed 2 yrs. Found it purely by chance out walking. Not on any guides as far as I'm aware, although it's been there since 1700.

I went to the Kirklees Hall Inn just below the Top Lock, beside the canal, in June and was very impressed. Good home made lamb curry and good beer.

There is also a shop in a portacabin on the pub car park.

Backi in the day we used to watch some rugby league International matches at the old Central Park ground in Wigan. Hop off the train, into the Swan and Railway for a couple of pints, then just up to the road to (the now defunct) Pooles bakery shop for a couple of top class pies. It's true about Wigan and pies. We walked into the shop and were greeted by the woman serving asking, "pies lad?". It was a given we wanted pies, just which ones.
