a number of boats went to Bewdley back in the early 80's as a campaign to open the Upper Severn

To be accurate:

It wasn't a Starline boat that got stuck. It was Starline that went out to recover the boat.
They'd have a job getting to Llangollen on the Severn; it goes nowhere near it!
At one time the Severn was navigable to Pool Quay, which is a couple of miles from Welshpool, and Severn Trows regularly got to Iron Bridge.

All that's needed is to make the Severn navigable up to Pool Quay, put a link in to the Montgomery Canal and reopen the closed bits of that, then you could get that way to Llangollen.

And while you're at it, put in a link to the Shrewsbury and Newport Canal as well.

I don't remember seeing that sign last year. I went a bit past the end of navigation out of curiosity and there was certainly nothing as clear as that.

Looks like they got stuck under the A456 bridge - not bad going really!

 

I didn't take any photos, so here's Lark (temporarily) stuck under Harrington Bridge on the Trent instead. 🙂

Moored at the County Hall now, hopefully try this weekend. I did get a little past Wilford the other day but it was getting dark so turned back.

Update: yes.

 

Stopped there because water visibly swirling over obstacles of some kind; need to do some more poking about in the canoe and find a similarly daft crew member or two for contingencies.
