What if all cars registered in the Birmingham/Wolverhampton/Black Country connurbation had to have CaRT licenses as well as pay vehicle excise duty? A car under 4m and 1.8m beam would cost £594.37 a year, which should more adequately compensate CaRT for the cost of fishing them out of their waters. They'd have to have CaRT index numbers, along with DVLA plates, and display the license in the windscreen. 😀

But then they'd have to be moved every 14 days, unless there are blue signs to the contrary.

But but but.. who decides what's reasonable? Will it satisfy the bored?

Those red ramps to ease a stolen vehicle's safe entry into the canal are a good idea. CRT could get them back out cheaply with just a tirfor then instead of a mobile crane. They'll also help hedgehogs to get out, so I suspect they qualify for a grant. :)

There used to be Road Traffic Act Only policies.  It was one step down from third party as it covered third part personal injuries but not third party property.  But I think the RTA has been changed to require cover for all third party claims.

As a first principle, you have to be negligent to have a valid claim against you, and thus one which your insurer will meet the claim.  So I don't really get how you might be liable for the actions of someone who stole your car (assuming you were not negligent in the theft).  Anyone know?
