FionaMck
Hi, just about to purchase our own narrowboat after many years of hiring. We’re excited and scared in equal measure! Can anyone recommend a surveyor for our pre purchase survey in the Bradford on Avon area?

BEngo
Have a look at the YDSA site. That is one of the professional bodies for Surveyors. There is also usually a Surveys page in Towpath Talk, free from lots of outlets. Next issue due soon I think. Or https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=http://www.canaljunction.com/boat/surveyors.htm&ved=2ahUKEwjWoaTv4e_rAhWzQEEAHTFRBdkQFjAKegQIAhAB&usg=AOvVaw2XwR0kBtsPNzOjXRdbnBSd N Edited September 17, 2020 by BEngo

MrsM
Hi Fiona. You can also search on the International Institute of Marine Surveying website, https://www.marinesurvey.in/MSS/#/ Waterways World annual publication has lists of everything useful such as engineers, marinas, boatyards, surveyors etc. Unfortunately mine is on my boat so no help to you at the moment. We bought earlier in the year and I would urge you to try and be around when all parts of the survey are being carried out. While surveyors are invaluable for things like hull thickness they are not infallible. Please check the boat's systems for yourselves to make sure you are happy they are working. I suggest doing this while on a shoreline and on batteries if you are able to do this. If you can't be around for the survey (Covid restrictions etc) then spend some time beforehand checking the boat carefully, then you can ask your surveyor to pay special attention to any areas of concern. Best of luck and sorry I can't give you any names.
