  1. I have never been very happy with these non-mandated interactions. My boat is on these underused long term moorings and it would appear that representations are taking place about its future that I didn't know about. In this instance I suspect my views would be the same as yours but I don't know the detail. Personally I would like CART to dramatically improve the quality of the surveys it submits to all individual boat owners whilst keeping an ear open to the user organisations. I feel that CWDF could do a very useful job in preparing draft survey questionnaires for CART to use. There is no way that a large organisation can keep in touch with individuals acting as intermediaries without a constituency.

  3. I'm confused by the terms used as to the particular requirements for the engine and for the gearbox?
  4. 800W? 9 years ago? Has the washing machine or mains cable to the inverter been changed recently? I don't remember my builder correctly after 1 year let alone 9. Half the story is missing here.
  5. Beautiful pictures, nicely presented. Now that is what I call Art.

  7. You can't keep both the cheese and the meat on the base plate. In my book on hygiene and cooking it says quite clearly that fresh meat must be on a different plate to other foods.
  8. Having your boat sprayed by grass trimmings is all very well but have you ever wondered why it sticks so hard? I counted five piles of dog poo beside my boat, that is in the 2 ft between the water and the towpath before they mowed it. Is this why it sticks like s***t?
  9. Many's the time people have marched up to me and flung a tea bag into my pot without asking me first. For G*d's sake, its my teapot and I'll manage it myself, or ask nicely if I need too. The number of times I've been drenched by the teabag flying along inside the teapot and spraying tea out of the spout, this is a dangerous practice - it is boiling water, after all.

  11. I am always happy to have total strangers run my bath taps, isn't everyone?
  12. I have bought myself a shower tray and I am unsure what to do next. I can put off the decision moment by concentrating on the drain plumbing but eventually I too will have to decide on an enclosure of some sort. Wahhhh! (I am not sure how to spell that.)
  13. <pedant> This is a statement, not a request. The word "please" is not relevant. </pedant>
  14. Is the full list of currently accredited examiners available in the public domain?
  15. What part of the country are you in? If you possible can, you want to increase your experience of narrowboat usage before you get further in, I would suggest.

  17. I have a vague idea that I've seen underwater welding on TV with pictures of oil rigs in the North Sea. I suppose it would be awkward trying to get a narrowboat out to the North sea?
  18. I'll offer £6 but only if she's had her bottom blacked lately...
  19. I wish that boats with additional requirements ie very heavy, deep draft, and above all, towing, had a distinctive flag at the front that was obvious to even a dumbo like me, so that I can judge priorities at bridges better.
  20. I never put water in the flush tank of my 365. But this is a very basic form of living. Roll on the installation of my pump-out tank!
  21. No, not the bridges themselves. Bridges to paint under. Where are they? Why would you want to paint under a bridge? 1. To keep the boat at the right temperature by moving it in and out of the shade at different times of the day. 2. To keep it dry if a shower pops up. What sort of bridge? 1. One where you don't obstruct passing boats. 2. Where you can moor, ideally armco, or at least put pins in, but not the solid concrete that has no fixing points available. 3. One which is long enough to cover the length of boat you wish to paint. 4. Which is not inhabited by a rash of broken engine notices 5. Which is not in the middle of pretty, pretty land, where as soon as you start a sander somebody comes out and complains that the bridge magnifies the sound to unbearable levels. So where are they please? It would be nice to have a nationwide list.
  22. Deleted as, on reflection, it had little merit.
