  1. There’s nothing to service on an Eberspacher, as told to me by an installer. If they claim to be servicing it they’re doing somewhere between nothing and looking at it. You need someone who understands the radiator to Eberspacher set up, probably nothing more than a friendly moorer. The Eberspacher only needs something repairing if it won’t switch on to start with. Save yourself some money and ask around.
  2. The monthly repayments are more than some people earn in a year!

  4. As l believe someone has already said NB Ellis offers what you want. He’s just a guy who enjoys, most of the time, what he does and is happy to share his knowledge.
  5. Last year when we cruising we met a boat at a lock with an elderly gentleman steering and an elderly lady trying to do paddles with tears in her eyes and no will or strength to carry on. After assisting her through the lock and then to moor up she started to explain that in a lucid moment her husband with dementia had begged her to take him on their narrow boat. In her heart of hearts she knew she couldn’t cope but wanted to try and do it for him. We left her having made sure she had contacted her family and arranged for someone to come and assist her whist they went back to the marina. She said the only way she could be sure that he was safe was to let him steer and then she worried herself sick he would step off the back or side without sensing danger. Things might not be so bad now but sadly they will get worse. Talk to people, tell them how you feel , help is available and admitting it to others is the first step to getting it. Good luck and take care.
  6. I’m not sure many people would agree that the house is hideous. It may not be to everyone’s taste but it’s designed and decorated using very modern fixtures and fittings. It wouldn’t be too my taste but you could change some of the interior for very little cost and make it much more welcoming. I would suggest the structural integrity is absolutely fine. Personally l think the biggest let down is the outside of the house. The cheap house brick needs rendering to compliment the modern interior of the property. The fabulous garden would suit anyone who enjoys gardening. The last owner that l spoke to spent many, many hours maintaining it and was often complimented on lovely it looks.
  7. Ashby boats are great, l think the nicest we hired. Before we bought we hired a couple of boats with Wifi included, it rarely worked so please don't have great expectations!!
  8. Pillings Lock have/had a couple of single hire boats moored there. We used one of them in the about 5 years ago and I've spoken with the other owner, both of them do/did their own turnaround and used RCR for engineering problems. If you decide to go ahead with it add yourself to the late bookings part on Canal Junction, before we bought our boat we used this on a regular basis and you can offer the boat on really flexible terms especially if you're able to do turnarounds yourself or find someone flexible enough to do it for you. I reckon you would be looking at between £900 and £1200 per week, about two thirdsthat amount for a long weekend depending on what the boat's like and how many it sleeps. Let it in the winter when many hire companies close and so long as it's mechanicaly sound and warm you could get a reasonable return. Good luck!
  9. Badger is a fabulous boat and whoever purchases it is very lucky, l will have boat envy!! We looked at Badger when we purchased our boat 3 years ago, we were novices in many ways and nerves definately got the better of us. It's now more realistically priced although still a bit overpriced for the age etc.. I'm trying to recall some details of an old survey that we were shown, it made us nervous as it was orginally built with a 6mm steel bottom, unlike todays boats. I asked some questions on here and got firmly put in my place as the hull measured approx 5.7mm and it was duly and quite rightly pointed out that in 30 years if that was all the detereation that it suffered it was clearly well made with good quality steel!! At that time it had had only a partial refit and there was still some work that needed doing. Since our viewing, the interior work looks as though it has been finished and extra bits and piceces have been added. The tongue and groove when we viewed was all new, the morso had been installed although could have done with fixing properly, the engine had been reconditioned and looked new, the stove was great, the bathroom had been done up and that could have been differently in my opinion but was clean and usable. All that said it's definately worth a look. I'm curious as it's been advertised a few times with different brokers and i'm unsure if it was ever sold so a survey is a definate must in my opinion as it makes me wonder if there is an issue with something!! Good luck with your search. I don't know exactly what you're looking for but there's a boat in the for sale section that a marina have offered £20,000 for and in my very humble opinion is probably worth far more, if the seller wants a quick sale, it could be a bargain!!
  10. If you're looking for a cheap narrowboat holiday l would use the canal junction late bookings link. Not only does it give you some great deals there's also an option to put in your own requirements and see what you get back. We booked our first canal holiday in the normal way and then stumbled upon canal junction and never looked back after that. We never had a bad holiday and had some absolute bargains. At the time we regularly used the site we were also using it in school holidays and something always came back without fail. We usually left it until the week before to get the very best deals. Good luck with your booking and have fun!!
  11. The Karcher hoses are excellent quality and there are some great offers around currently!!
  12. We stayed at the Froghall end of the Caldon earlier on this year, we walked some of the towpath which indeed was being upgraded at the time.

  14. Back of the packaging says yes. We put some G4's in last week and used them on and off the mains, they were fine.
