  1. I think it is key that we get a short list of people who would want to be nominated. To me this is more than people saying he would be a good guy etc. To do this first off the person has to want to do it, second they have to have the time to do it, and thirdly they need to have the appropriate skills. Therefore is seems to me that we need people to put them forward an say a little bit about why they feel qualified to do this. Once there is that short list then there has to be either an informal or formal process of selecting one candidate from the forum.
  2. I got the letter today as well. I think it would be great if this forum nominated someone (I am not volunteering). I would be happy to be one of the sponsors though. If you have not had the letter yet ,the voting will in February via a web site , SMS, or post, and is being run by the Electoral Reform Society.
  3. I am managing to resist the beard so far. Alcohol is a different matter . However you must get yourself a leather drovers hat, they are mandatory.
  4. That is a interesting point. We used to have a static caravan, and they certainly do have to have a minimum spacing, something like 5m, as a fire break. You are also not supposed to have combustible materials around the caravan for the same reason. I would expect that the presence of all the water feels like it makes a difference in the 2 situations, but it certainly would not stop file spreading between boats. In our marina the boats are in grousp of perhaps 20-30 with a promontory separating each group. So fire on one, unchecked, would certainly take out a whole group.
  5. Just your average trip out then So ignoring getting there, would you take a narrowboat on the Caladonian Canal, Loch Lochy and particularly Lock Ness seem a bit big and scary to me.
  6. I suspect the overall cost will not be that impacted by where you go from/to really. Much will be in the crane out/crane in, not the truck mileage. What sort of boat is it, I assume a narrowboat is not suitable for the Caledonian Canal.
  7. One thing I did not see but possibly implied, is to know how much you want to spend taking into account survay and other immediate up from costs, like modifications and equipment. I suspect with the market as it is you can expect to knock down the asking price a bit, so pitch the boats you are looking at accordingly.
  8. The BCNS seem to be doing a poor job on web sites currently. The site that you have linked to is the "old" site, which basically seems to have been abandoned. What you are referencing to is about the 2011 challenge, as you point out, so you can see how out of date it is. The "new " web site is here, on a different domain name. That has the 2012 diary of events, and the Challenge is not mentioned, so was a bit surprised to hear it was on.
  9. Yes Planning on entering again. Where did you get the info from?
  10. I certainly would be if it were. Just a Poor choice for words think, but made me smile.
  11. Listening to in on iplayer now. Did not realise Caen Hill was a staircase though, with side ponds as well.
  12. Going by the amount of heat our PS3 kick out they certainly use a lot of power, but if you are on shore power that is not going to be an issue. Not so sure how well online usage will go, the ping times on a mobile network will kill you (literally in COD).
  13. Chrome is great for most things, and much faster that the others particularly for heavy javascript operations eg web 2.0 apps. One issue that I have had though is with the "Predict network actions to improve page load performance", which I now have turned off. If you see you have problems with it not loading pages and you have to hit refresh, try disabling this (Options/Under the Bonnet)
  14. That is great news, reported here too Lapal Canal Trust Website. Well done to those involved in what looks like a very positive step.
  15. Two additional things. If you already had digital freeview, then it the switch over has happened you may well have to have the box/tv scan for channels again, as they all moved around on switch over. Secondly if you have an old free view box it is possible that it will no longer work post switch over. This one caught me out, and the first freeview box (an old itv digital branded one) we had at home, no longer works post switch over.
  16. Martin, to get youtube to display like that what exactly do you do?
  17. Actually for a boat that is not true, the not both at once is only for static caravans etc, ie stuff the does not move. From TV licence site.
  18. To be honest you sent him a template letter, and he gave you a temple reply. Not much else he can say is there?
  19. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 10 posts to view.
  20. You can use oil filled radiators for heaters (Argos), we have 2 on ours, a 500watt and a 750 watt I think. Over last winter they used £60 or so of electricity.
  21. Hum, there are lots a values under the bed (where the calorifier is), if those do it they are not very convenient to get to. I guess I could also try turning off each of the radiators and see what happens then. It's no big deal, when we are out we usually cruise each day so get hot water from the engine heating, and in the marina we can use the immersion heater. Just a few times I had had to run the engine for 30 mins to get some hot water, r when I did not want the radiators on.
  22. You could also have a immersion heater as well. An other question; on the central heating side is the calorifier always in series with the radiators. I believe ours is, as it in not possible get hot water from the central heeting boiler without heating the radiators (I think). Is that normal or is our "simplistic".
  23. Surly what you want is a diffused light rather than just a more powerful spot. I would have thought 55w is enough power, but if upping the power you need to be certain the cable is up to it.
