  3. I shall join the back of the que and watch this post with interest.. Thanks from me too

    Oil pressure switch.

Thats what I love about boats- even the most mundane things turn out not to be. Well sussed that man
  5. They must cover a big area then because although EA , Im on a different river to Blackrose and that wasnt just storm damage blocking the lock. There were (cut ) trunks and logs 12" diameter plus floating about in there too!
  6. Nope. Just make sure the cable is sized according to the extra length. (My starter and domestics are apart and on opposite sides of boat btw)
  7. Thanks. The signs are handy to tie up to - until the cows trip over your ropes or chew them undone! Photo of where them trees end up. Took me about half hour to get out the lock (just after Xmas storms and flood).Phoned EA and they were there next day and cleared it all to their credit.
  8. Riparian rights-land owner owns the land to centre of river
  9. Sorry -off topic and all that but do you know if the field you took the pics from is still an unofficial mooring? Always liked to stop there.Think I read on here once that the land owner was charging to stay on it now ?
  10. I think its because (a) the trees technically still belong to the landowner (b) it makes it very expensive if you have to take it all away. Especially if the trees arent yours to start with. Guess the landowners have no obligation to maintain navigation and the navigation authorities have no obligation to pay to remove the land owners trees?

    Oil pressure switch.

Thats a beast of an oil pressure switch! Can you not tap it and then mount something a bit more standard into that fitting? Bit of a faff but maybe quicker in the long run..
  12. Im guessing you get the strong stream alerts ? My understanding was that if you ignore EA's advice to stay put then its not that you are not insured as such just that you are negligent ?(for lack of better word) in carrying on regardless so unlikely to get a pay out. The narrowboat that sunk at Ditchford weir would know the answer to that question I would think. I dont know if they got paid or not.
  13. Well I cant argue with that- Im not at all familar with the vetus one and never seen one in my life ! The Tecma does indeed only indicate on leds which I guess is not really a gauge as you say. Think Bod has the best solution though
  14. Im afraid you are wrong there. The last loo I repaired had one sitting on top of the tank-If memory serves me right it was a Tecma -it was part of the standard flush/tank level panel Similar idea- https://www.thetfordmarine.com/product/field-effect-sensor/
  15. Me neither. But this one will make the vetus guages look cheaper https://www.leesan.com/shop/tank-accessories/tank-level-indicators/gobius-4-2.0-tank-level-indicator-for-waste-tanks.aspx
  16. Heres an expensive one to start https://www.asap-supplies.com/gauges/senders-fittings/level-senders/vetus-ultrasonic-level-sensor-sensora Now see if you can find a cheaper one !
  17. An easy and neat way of doing it is search for something like Silicon Hose 90 degree reducer on Ebay -these will fit onto standard 1 1/4 pipe /waste and you can select whatever size you want for the reduced pipe. I used 22 mm as this is then mechanically fitted into my skin fitting using standard 22mm to 3/4 inch fitting.
  18. A beautiful river. Depending on your taste in Marinas well worth giving White Mills a visit. Bit more rural and quieter than Billing if thats more to your taste and owned by a very welcoming couple.
  19. On all the outboards I have ever messed with to switch them off you connect the ignition to earth (negative) same as a lawnmower. So if you pull the multiplug that connects the wiring to the outboard apart you should be able to hand start it at least. Plugging it back together will then stop it. May not work but worth a try. A new key would be alot easier :-)
  20. Usually takes me about 30 hours (ish) at narrowboat speed-I dont do howling engines and its a beautiful river so even if your on a schedule you want to enjoy it. Others tell me about 24 hours and guess thats at 7mph ?
  21. Try these -I find them helpful and pleasant to deal with- http://www.fowlerpenfoldmarine.com/
  22. Marinas are all different. Most as Alan said reqiure you to at least sign in and prove you have insurance. I am personally insured for 5 million but notice alot of other tradesman are only insured to 2 million- none of which have been refused permission to work. BWML used to ask for 3 million but would accept 2 million. Some will want a percentage or may charge you a daily fee for being on site. Some dont charge at all as it annoys the moorers! Any marina with a workshop paying staff, rent, rates etc is unlikely to welcome you if you are stealing their living.
  23. Not quite the size you wanted but this is the stuff Ive come across on ceilings on odd occasions- (has a real wood groove and foil wrap)- http://www.lathamstimber.co.uk/OakNeatmatch.html
  24. There was some sort of known injection issue with the Barrus Shanks. It was the Barrus engineer who told me about it when he was checking a gearbox problem on one for me. Cant remember what it was Im afraid but it would be well worth a phone call to the Technical dept at Barrus who may be able to give you some help/advice.
  25. The temperature knob is next to the wall. Pivot it round to gain access to it-note what its set too and then turn it down to mininum. Hair dryer or heater directly on it will soon tell you if it (and pump) is working without all the excitement of a stove hissing and banging. Or as suggested-take the grey cover off and bridge the two terminals.
