  1. I guess its a very different world now to when many on here started boating. Information is everywhere and very easy to be got unlike years gone by. So what youd never know as scary seems that way when you read endlessly about it.
  2. Hopefully OP is following the CRT stoppages - I see the closure has just been extended on the Coventry until 29th which may or may not affect his plans. Alrewas/Wychnor River section also shut today too -another one worth keeping an eye on once he does clear the Coventry..
  3. Thats great news for you! CRT are usually pretty good at letting you know when stoppages have been extended for whatever reason and pretty bad at getting the locations right sometimes..
  4. Never done it but how about a canvas roof supported by a timber or two in the middle to stop it sagging etc but with celotex/roof vinyl glued on the inside. Warm, lightweight and reasonable cost.
  5. Id put money on it. Same finish date so some bright spark has joined the dots.😀 Mind you there is a reason why I dont gamble..
  6. Hardwick is shown on the winter stoppages 28/11/22 This is what the mix up with the broadmoor stoppage probably is.
  7. I still have one above my hob. Bought and fitted it ready for the Paloma I never actually fitted cos I changed my mind and fitted a calorifier instead. Jolly useful too as I then fitted a computer fan in it and it works brill as an extractor..
  8. I'll give you that one. It does look alot less painful than some of the others Ive discovered occasionally..😀
  9. Yep I see all that and agree it may well reduce that BUT -my worry about fitting anything like this is if anything metal (barbed wire for example) got jammed in , could it bend that sticky out bit and go under making an already really hard to get off object really hard. Ive had one rope cutter fail and break (presumably because of what hit it) -that luckily wasnt that bad -I just had several days with a clicky sounding prop shaft.😀 Sometimes you cant beat simple.
  10. Its not going to be easy attaching the fixed bit to your average narrowboat. Im guessing your average trawler, while dealing with a variety of prop stopping stuff, rarely comes across shopping trolleys, bikes and other metal objects too..
  11. I have done this on an old Broads Cruiser- as David Mack says weight is crititical. A new light (as could be made) roof was made and some upside down 'L' shaped arms used. The 'L' shape was needed to lift the roof off the screens when being taken off and then to lower back on when putting back on. It also meant the arms where less in the way when the roof was stored on the aft cabin roof.
  12. Unlike him as he does like to do things properly. Pass him regulary and only went down the Calcutt locks with him while he was tutoring a few weeks ago and have to say find him thorough and 'by the book'
  13. Bit late to the party and all that but past it last month at Northbrook Lock (I think) Got quite a twist on it

Do you do Ebay Maffi ? Plenty there - heres first one I found https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/181559473819?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=YoznaLPsTvK&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=r_7o6iATRXa&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY Hope your keeping well ..👍
  16. You are so right. I once stupidly bought some bargain board from my local woodyard who told me ' its exactly the same stuff -just without the picture printed on it'. Nearly lasted the winter before delaminating. 😀
  17. That suprises me. I collected a boat from there earlier this year, there was a glitch/delay due to a technicality with the survey so I said to the buyer I would put the move back as he still wanted to have it two packed and some other work done before I collected it. No need he said, yard have already said it will all still be done on time and they are going to work late over the weekend. Was all done and ready on Monday morning 👍
  18. Footbridge is only about hundred or so yards away behind the boat that takes you to Sainsburys- you must dislike walking even more than me 😀
  19. I was wondering why youd want to moor on the other side..😀
  20. May have changed a bit since you was last there? Just had a look on google maps and still shows this as it was (loads of portacabins)
  21. I cant remember the name of the workshop at Aston (directly opposite the exit) but have found them to really pull the stops out and get things done. Guessing probably booked up though?
  22. If it was easy I would have done it 😀 Made a nice job of it there now they finished it-be even nicer if the grass gets a chance to grow and the geese dont scoff it all..
  23. I never stop there myself but do rather like Selly Oak. That could be because Im lazy and its a nice mooring with a big Sainsburys on the opposite side of the canal 😀
  24. Can remember a good few things about this boat but your chairs are not one of them..😀
