  1. If I can do it so can you. Come on Phil embrace this new fangly techy age and throw away those brushes and go for the sticky back plastic transfers. See Waterways were way ahead of their time
  2. I likes that crease effect down the middle. How do you produce that or is it a trade secret?
  3. Another can................of worms?
  4. Here we go again actually mods shouldn't this post be pinned or transferred to the water can post , it keeps repeating itself over a period of time and basically the answers are the same each time. Be critical for gawds sake, surely you are allowed to be critical without causing any offence, it seems so few people these days appear to know what a "heavy" can looks like which is fair enough there aren't that many about. Cost has to be an issue, there isn't a mass market for 'quality' cans, in whoevers opinion the word 'quality' , if they're costing around £150ish fully painted, few people will pay that price. I've got several galvanised buckets some of which must be 50 yrs old if not more, there is absolutely no comparison to todays product. If you're sending off a fairly modern can as a sample model to a sheet metalworker note the wording, not a holloware manufacturer, who has no history behind him, you'll get what you pay for. If he's anything like a craftsman if you give him a 50 yr. old can he should be able to reproduce that given time but whose going to part with theirs possibly for ever if it goes overseas. Maybe those of us over a certain age should let go and realise things ain't wot they used to be and never will be again and settle for second best. Just read your post Terence so quick edit to say that Terence is doing his bit we should try and encourage him not discourage him.
  5. Slightly off post I know. Just been watching one of your vids Laurence. Do you have a copy of the pic of the 'Electra' in utility livery? I noticed it had some decoration on the cabin doors unfortunately when I freeze frame my old vcr makes the still go haywire. I'm interested to know what decoration if any was added to GU boats carrying the utilty livery, I have seen a pic of the 'Hercules' with flowers on the back doors.
  6. And Bayko who remebers that? James May might have had better results with his house building if he used Bayko instead of Lego.
  7. Oh dear! I rang BP the other day enquiring as to whether I could purchase stills, the one's downloadable from the site have British pathe plastered all over them. The chap at BP told me to ring back in the New Year when he would have more information. I'm wondering now what they may charge for this service, eek!
  8. flippin heck just seen my boat in its hotel boat days, must try and get some stills from BP without their name plastered all over the pics.
  9. Don't know whether this post should appear in the for sale section, but a raid on a French steel stockist has been arranged to purchase several sheets ( 8' x 4' ) of 4mm nom. diamond pattern tread plate. This follows on from the post which was running throught the summer months and drew a blank when it was reported that the use of this sort of material has been outlawed in EU countries and a possible source in Poland was no longer available. Anybody interested in purchasing this type of material should contact Brinklow Boats in the first instance but you'd better hurry cos its going like hot sheets from a rolling mill. This could be our last chance of obtaining material like this so if there is a demand a further trip could be arranged. Decklid on the Snipe Foredeck on the Stafford
  10. I see Waterways haved moved Norbury onto the Staffs and Worcs cut according to the location for The Ling. I wonder therefore has anyone heard of any other junctions being moved around the system?
  11. Are you saying the Apollo's ran on cherry? Diesel to the moon
  12. If Steve picks up on this thread it might be interesting to know what price he would put on an, as near as is physically possible in this day and age, new build of a ready to work Woolwich or Northwich It would be interesting to compare with the 1930's prices and yes I am sitting down  I've just spent a quid on the Lotto therefore I feel sure I will be in the market for a fleet by Saturday night could you start work next Monday????? ;)
  13. Quote 'BW should get their act together' That'll be a first. The clowns have taken over the circus
  14. [quote By the way, if anyone believes the greeny - blue livery shown in narrowboat, forget it! It was derived from a retouched black and white photos in a National Geographic magazine! A case of artistic license then? That'll save John a few quid! Think he was prepared to repaint Buckden a shade of green if it could be substantiated that she did indeed carry this livery at some time.
  15. I planked up a Larch I felled last year to suitable dimensions to make top planks and beams. They're at Brinklow Boats. Ring Rex if you're interested.
  16. Edward Paget-Tomlinson's Illustrated History has a line drawing based on Rennies spec. for the K&A
  17. Which only goes to show, never judge a book by it's cover. Others on here could learn from that So are we going to see you re-marketing your dvd's for the german narrowboat market with a blue systems soundtrack? I could just see Jinksy bombing along to one of their tracks never mind yer Elvis or Bill Haley. Which cleverly leads me onto did you ever find that footage of John J you thought may have been consigned to the archives, the 'loaded' boat with zero freeboard? ;)
  18. Yeah sounds much better to the PSB's Its A Sin Not sure about yer uber musak Are you a Kraftwerk groupie too, on the quiet?
  19. Not sure about the music Laurence sounds like Pet Shop Boys meets a-ha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Course you can always turn the sound off and add your own backing track Great visuals though Well done
