  1. Just an update on this to say that I no longer have any contact details for this deal.
  2. Had the same thing recently on Barrus shire 40. switch was a standard durite model which had corroded inside causing it to self start and jam the starter motor. Caused a lot of damage. So replaced the switch with one of these. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Durite-0-351-05-4-Position-Ignition-Switch-Car-Marine-/120755855026?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item1c1d9c1eb2
  3. Set of keys found at Turners Green moorings Grand union canal, near Tom o'the wood pub Will be handed in to CRT Office Kingswood Junction 1st Nov 2014 A.M Hope this helps UPDATE: If CRT closed try Canal Cottage on opposite side of basin (please note this is a private house and this note is for these keys specifically and not general CRT enquires)
  4. INFO RE Barrus Shire after market alternators This may help expalin why it is difficult to track down an after market alternator for Barrus shire My question "Could you please advise on stock availability for a 12V MARINE ALTERNATOR 110AMP 35215315 (Barrus RDG5725) Or a suitable alternative (90a -110a range) many thanks" Reply "Unfortunately the 352- series has been discontinued, it was a range of units that was only ever made in one factory (Mexico) which has now shut down, no other company made them aftermarket for some reason. They have very "funny" measurements, so there isn't a direct alternative, although you might look at some of the units beginning with 6602, as these may be close to what you have there" Helps explain why it is difficult to obtain these, most of the google links take you to sites which indicated No Stock or No availability. Thats Plan A out the window Hope this helps and saves some fruitless searching
  5. Many thanks Bottle. I have been on that site a number of times and for some reason my search never found the correct item
  6. Hi Rich I am also looking for a replacement for the now discontinued Barrus 110a (prestolite 35215315). Could you possible let me know which alternative the Starter Motor and Alternator Co Ltd provided and wether it is a a simple replacement fit. Many thanks in advance. Not to bothered if it is slightly lower or higher than 110a. Note: May be of use to you but I have used the above company to source an alternative starter Motor (original fitted Hitachi S13-294) the equiv cost £160 delivered Barrus was about £460. Their Ref is S1501
  7. Yes but only if you have a controller that can handle the higher voltage which is what most MPPT controllers do. Wiring in parallel will give you more amps on a sunny day but it will most likely give you ZERO amps on a cloudy day (which is most of the winter)
  8. Remember its the charging voltage that allows you to charge your batteries from the solar panels. In winter and on overcast days, using your method would mean that all your panels would drop below the charging voltage therefore you would get zero amps. Using a GOOD (see other posts on cheap ebay mppt controllers) MPPT controller allows you to wire your panels up with a higher voltage which means you have a good chance of getting a charging voltage even in winter. You also save a considerable amount on wiring as you only need on set of good quality wires to run to the controller and the batteries. Heres a link to a decent explaination (Note this is a PDF file http://www.blueskyenergyinc.com/uploads/pdf/BSE_What_is_MPPT.pdf A quick google for "how a mppt controller works" will give you a better explanation than I can give (Probably with better spelling as well) Hope this helps
  9. Although I have never used it myself I have read up on it extensively and your warnings are very pertenent, the technical specs give full info on safety. The guy I bought it from said that he knew some one who had a small splash into the eye and it was like having a cigarette stubbed out on the eyeball so .yes. full safety precautions need to be headed
  10. Yep. Or I am informed that the TERCOO tools will give the required surface for coating so I have purchased a set of three of these from here http://tercoo-rotating-blaster.co.uk/ This a a cheaper option than grit blasting but is more work. Once grit balsted and coated The zinga should idealy but blacked over . My understanding is that the ZINGA should then be good for 15-20 years, as i'm now 64 I am hoping to be around when it needs to be redone.
  11. Just taken delivery of 2 tins of ZINGA coating from a guy based in the birmingham area. Only cost £99 per tin (about half the online retail price). He says he has a small number of cans left, If anyone is interested then PM me and I'll let him know of your interest. My understanding is that he purchases ZINGA for specific jobs he does in his own company and some times has small amounts (to him ) left over which he sells on, so this may be repeatable in the future. I have pointed him to this site and the number of interesting discusions on the use of ZINGA Seems a very genuine guy, delivered them to me for nothing at Fradley junction and gave me a free pair of saftey glasses and 2 pair of industrial rubber gloves plus alot of useful info on how he uses it. If you want some tech info on ZINGA I found a verry good site which also has a coverage calculator (note this is NOT the site I bought them from) http://www.classcoat.com/2327.html Note: I have no association with this other than as a satisfied customer with a one of purchase. I'm all set now with my ZINGA, Tercoo tools and a couple of Hempel 2 pack kits, just need a good DIY place now where I can get the work done, any suggestions appreciated.
  12. Bought most of my stuff from them when I was bulding my own panels. very helpfull and knowlegable. If I was buying a system they would certainly be top, or near the top of my listy of suppliers. Based on my own experience I can certaily recommend them. Good luck with yoyr installation
  13. Heads up Just spotted this on ebay 12v fuel pump which appears on first sight to be the same as the barrus fuel pump but priced at £26 rather than the £197 that someone stated they had paid for a barrus spare. Although I have already ordered my facet pump I may just order one of these as well as it should go in without any pipework mods.
  14. Have 2 dab radios a mains powered one and a cheap tesco battery powered one, both are very dependent on location. have noticed that i can run an FM radio on 4 rechargable batteries for about 5-6 days but the dab will only run for about 6-7 hours, not realy aproblem as i rotate 2 sets of batteries. As regards the LED lights Mine work ok with suppressed bulbs but I have one cheapo bulb which turns the radio signal off, good fun if you ask someone to alter the volume on the dab and the turn the light on behind their back, simple pleasures
  15. Many thanks for the reply I have ordered a 60104 wasn't sure if the 60106 was to high a pressure, should of waited for a reply. Anyway I will give the 60104 a try if it appears to weak I will order the 60106 and keep the 60104 as an emergency spare. Having read a number of posts on the subject, both here and elsewhere, it would appear that the barrus fuel pump is a weak spot on the engine. again thanks for the reply and advice on mounting it regards
  16. Having changed all my fuel filters and cleaned out all lines and having read through previous posts it looks like I need a new fuel pump for a Barrus Shire 40. Previous posts have suggested using a Facet Posi-flow electric pump as listed here: fuel pumps online Facet pumps However I am not sure which posi-flow model to order. Anyone know which model I should order?
  17. Thanks for the info. Heading that way so this should prove usefull
  18. Hi can you let me know Where are they available for £380 please. Best I can find is £525. Might consider these after a bit more research (Vinces £25 jobs have finaly given up on me, not complaining as were excelent value for the money) Many thanks
  19. Whilst looking around the site referred to in my previous link above I came across this, which appears to be fairly definitive. The full text can be found here VOA Link Hope this is of use to someone
  20. Many thanks for the work you do Smelly. I don't know if this has been shown befor but I have found a link for uptodate Local Refernce rates. Now all I have to do is the calculation. Link Local Reference Rates Question: Do you happen to know what they mean by the number of Rooms. Does this refer to total number of rooms or the number of bedrooms? N.B The link is for November 2011. I suspect you may need to do a site search each month for later updates
  21. I used some plastic tongue and groove (white plastic) which I got from B and Q, fairly cheap.
  22. I have installed one of these a couple of weeks ago and so far am very happy with it. Seems well made, has a handy lcd display, allows for future expansion (30a). Good service and delivery from supplier and reasonable price, although postage a bit high this is not to bad if cables etc are bought at the same time. Provista 30a MPPT
  23. Its not the translation Its the content, however the translation is very similar to these Health Product Articles from the same site. I ask myself 2 questions Do I trust the MPPT product? Do I trust the company? I then draw my own conclusions and make my own purchasing decision. On the product side I refer you again to this discussion Wellsee MPPT discussion
  24. Discussion taking place on WIND AND Sun forum re the Welsee MPPT Wellsee MPPT discussion Also you may like to read this from the Wellsee site Manager Oration
