  1. I don't know the exact dates but when I moved to London in 1980 the fact that the regents canal was closed to the public was still fresh in peoples minds. Tim
  2. One of our owners looked into this a few years ago and not only agreed but noticed that spelling mistakes in the Bradshaw railway directory had been carried over to town class boat names - we think that this is why (the boat) Fulbourne is spelt with an E whereas the town (village!) is not. BTW the main claim to fame for the town Fulbourn was its large lunatic asylum - no change here then! Tim
  3. Hopefully Fulbourne was still where we left it on the south side of town adjacent to the winding hole beyond the long term morrings! Tim
  4. I heard a very similar story from one of the diesel supplying boats whereas many suppliers will no longer load boats due to the risk of spilliage. Tim
  5. Hopefully Fulbourne was still there as well. Tim
  6. We bought ours from the Chandlery next to the junction at Middewich (the name escapes me) but it was a few years ago. Tim
  7. Came across these pictures which may be of interest: http://www.pbase.com/beppuu/ast_canal Tim

  9. My ex girlfriends boat has T & G boarding in the shower, its been there 17 years with no problems. Tim
  10. Puppis is conveted and is (Or was a couple of years ago) on the Arm at Leicester by the National Space Centre - will post picture when I get time. Tim
  11. Maybe he was concerned about mowing next to wet paint! Tim
  12. Canals don't chamge that much - you don't not buy a Nicholsons because the publisher doesn't do updates on their web site! Tim
  13. Advisable possibly but we have cruised the non tidal Thames numerous times and we have never considered it necessary to get the anchor out (a pig of a job on Fulbourne!) Tim
  14. I was thinking that you would go back via Oxford but if you were to go back up the GU from Brentford it would be a day or so shorter, it does of course mean going out onto the tidal Thames for a short stretch for which an anchor is essentail. VHF radio is not required on the Teddington to Brentord stretch but is if you carry on to Limehouse (Thorouhjly recommended) and you are over 13.7m. Enjoy your trip whatever you do Tim PS Mooring on the canal in Oxford is problematic - our favorite Oxford mooring is outside the Watermans Arms on the Thames - you can get away without a Thames licesnse to get to it as you do not need to pass through any Thames locks (But thinking about it I'm not sure where you would turn!)
  15. If you can get on Facebook there is a photo at: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=4697...mp;id=839529573 Tim
  16. It's not that small a bit of boating on the Thames - Oxford To Guildford and back is a good weeks boating so your fortnight, although doable, may only just be achievable (Canalplan puts it at 16 days) Anchor is not necessary and you only need navigation lights if boating at night. You will need additional licences for both the Thames and the Wey so not cheap! Tim
  17. I assume that its up the arm. Tim

  19. We were told, and having boated the canal believe it, that Retford is much more pleasant than Worksop, saying that we got set loose there on the way up and 'conkered' there on the way back! We also moored at the Basin at Stockwith - a bit isolated but the pub & boat club were OK, and at Shireoaks - not much there but a lovely stretch of canal. The Chesterfield is a great canal and should not be missed. Tim
  20. I can understand their reluctance, we went through on Friday evening (going upstream) and moored above Osney lock by the Waterman Pub. The flow had to be seen to be believed. There is no way that I would have attempted to take a boat downstraem in those condition, a couple of boats had been waiting there for a day or so on the very good advice of the lock keeper. Tim
  21. It was in edition of Canal Boat magazine, the June edition if I recall but will check when I get home. Tim Just checked - it was the june edition - Page 52 Tim
  22. We converted fulbourne back from a very derelict conversion to its original state albeit as a 'camping' boat. It can be a bit basic but we've had great fun on it over the last twenty years. There are a few a few pictures of the inside at: http://www.fulbourne.org.uk One thing we should have done better is the toilet/washing facility, Tim
  23. I think they are back on line now! Anyway, thanks for all the responses - Off for weekend on Fulbourne on the Southern oxford so I will try and sort out the answers on Monday when I might have a few more that need identifying. Hopefully in the nwar future I will get round to putting my historic boat photos on the web, prob. starting with the GUCC boats. Tim
  24. As we seem to have a few historic boat experts on this forum I could do with help with identifying a few from my photo collection - have guessed one of them! http://www.pbase.com/timlewis/unknown&page=all All help appreciated. Tim
