Sue As the person who told you that there is a stoppage I can only say that I have seen a stoppage notice which does not seem to have made it onto Waterscape, one of Fulbourne's owners rang BW who confirmed that it was still on. Can't remember the actual dates but it was something like 17th November for 19 days, will look it up when I get home. Tim PS It was nice to see you and Roger at the weekend Just Found It: Waterway: South East Waterway Start date: 17/11/2008 End date: 05/12/2008 Location: Lock 7, Aylesbury Arm, Grand Union South Type of restriction: Stoppage Duration: 17th November 2008 - 05th December 2008. 19 days. Details and reasons for stoppage: Lock wall repairs and grouting to stop serious water leaks through lock wall. Tim

  9. One of the most fascinating areas in North London for IA is the Royal Gunpowder Mills Museum at Waltham Abbey. not only for the history of explosives but the site had its own railway and Canal network complete with locks and aqueducts! Horribly restricted opening though Tim
  10. Two abandoned railway bridges next to the old power station at Acton. BTW we also took out a footbridge over the River Lea in Hackney last week, also using a 1000 tone crane. Tim
  11. The Bow Back Rivers are out of bounds until 2012! Tim A couple of useful books: Canal Tunnels of England & Wales, Appleby/Gilbert/Samuael - Aylestone Press Canal Lifts & Inclines Of The World - Hans-Joachim Uhlemann Tim
  12. All depends on the reach, at work we have just had to use a 1000 ton crane to lift out a 40ton bridge beam from over the Paddington Arm! Tim

  15. A few that I can think of: British Waterways Assuming that you don't have a gold license: EA - Thames EA - Great Ouse & Tributries (sp) EA - Medway Essex Waterways - Chelmer & Blackwater (Last two 'connected' via scary thames tidal passages) National Trust - River Wey Basingstoke Canal Authority - Basingstoke Canal Bristol Council - Bristol Harbour Uant/Lant - River Avon Middle Levels are license free but the owners of Marmont Priory lock 'request' a fee MSCC - Bridgewater Canal (Free if you have a BW license) MSCC - Manchester Ship Canal River Foss? (Hear it may be free now) There are prob others that I can't think of Tim
  16. I'm confused, if NBW ' think it best to wait and see what actually happens next month" why did they print it as a 'fact' Tim

  20.
