If you wary about doing it on the own St Pancras Cruising Club normally organise a number of Barrier cruises during the year, worth keeping an eye on their website. The barrier trips normally go out of Bow Lock and Bow Creek - an experience in itself. Tim

It is rare not to find a mooring in Little Venice/Paddington basin. Tim

If you were to try this it is worth noting that not only are there 132, 000 volt cables under the Regents towpath but that they are water cooled so even if you miss the cables you may well create a fountain. Tim

We've blacked the baseplate of Fulbourne several times at Rickmansworth but would admit that it wasn't the nicest of tasks, debdale is good as they use an overhead gantry crane which can place the boat on high trestles as someone has mentioned. Tim
