  1. Its still pretty steamy when I look at it 😁
  2. Its crazy. I suspect that a fair few people would use them in their gardens- the market for railway sleepers is extremely high. Accepting that the lock timber longeveity is shorter but thats not usually what folk seem to think about when doing garden make overs
  3. Could the small cupboard behind the cooker be extended and the dinette moved to accommodate a washing machine? Overall its what we found - the needs and so layout for mainly a boat for holiday use is rather different to a liveaboard. They can all be shifted around of course, though often at a cost and some boats are used for months of holiday at a time .
  4. Alternatively he could be stuck in the glorious rush hour traffic round Coventry when the sat nav last night advised a 1 hour journey which has now become 2 😂
  5. Just interested in what additional pressure, thanks for the explanation.
  6. What pressure are they under out of interest in the South?
  7. Sadly this field is being redeveloped into industrial units plus probably more too. If I could find how to resize my 7MB picture to 2.8 I would post but till I find out it shall remain in my phone. Incidentally the Diggle flight ground paddles suck to wards the top gates rather than push a 56ft narrowboat to the tail gates when going up, must be the effect of the two paddle culverts coming in from one side
  8. The Rochdale 9 only reopened 15th July (Lock 85, bracket issue) so I expect it may get busier soon, hopefully very soon.
  9. It must have been Boris or Rishi , now self isolating so cant go boating 😀
  10. I thought schedule 1 only applied to Bewick and Whooper swans? Perhaps I have missed an upgrade?
  11. Looking at this image is that one or two of the Alvechurch hire boats both pictured from the stern? I remember Coral Amethyst and Jade, but cant find reference to which was which. I think the boat from the stern that is the most obvious could be Amethyst, but I seem to recall that they possibly came later than 1962 to Alvechurch for hiring? I do remember one couple came to hire one of them with a pet monkey that clambered up the flagstaff at Alvechurch and wouldn't come down - that would have been around 1968 😀.
  12. The water tanks are surely drinking water, never considered anything else especially if it’s boiled for a cuppa. It’s probably less safe sitting in an old plastic bottle Irons pretty good for you there’s plenty in most diets Leave them to consider the offer, it’s too much at the asking price I believe

  15. Im not entirely new to boating, Hired boats for the last few years and watched Dad moor up very neatly for many years before that. But I struggle to stop narrowboats elegantly at the side when mooring up. I slowly glide in, all goes well, crew hop off with a bow rope/ line, then I reverse to stop and the stern then moves out with the flow of the water from reversing which seems to force out the stern. Cue flurry of throwing off a stern line jumping off as the boat hasn't completely stopped moving forwards, it can look pretty messy. SIGH Where am I going wrong? Any advise is welcome here.
  16. It offers plenty of room for a gigantic hi-Fi stack belting out a recording of your JD3 or even a Bolinder as well
  17. Huge shortage of certain plastics too, ones arising as a by product of Kerosene, not surprisingly. Very little Jotun epoxy paint left currently too apparently. It will all sort out soon. The "farmer" who chopped down and burnt the lovely oak in the field nearby might be upset if he hears the price it could have fetched though the housing plans may alleviate this upset.
  18. This evening, looking out from the Erewash, at least five cooling towers in operation
  19. A sunny early morning in Manchester last week, not usually recommended mooring but needs must.
  20. The rubbish in the canal at Gas Street is pretty much unchanged on the Manchester levels of the Rochdale still. Great pictures, an exciting time, so less sanitised than now
  21. Pretty good water on the Ashton with almost all wiers flowing
  22. Apparently it’s a longish stoppage, water level keeps dropping and the lock now needs rectification
