  1. On the boxes on the stern? I assumed those were gas bottle containers..
  2. Still waiting for the CRT listings for this year... last year they only sent a partial list. I must give them a nudge..... Not old ones ... Mintball's is only 5 digits
  3. log burning stove wents underwater...... I assume
  4. Not many solar panels, and it seems to be bow heavy It's pretty damned ugly.
  5. The barrels are on a "shelf" that hangs off the back of the boat - so the tiller is in front of them....
  6. Extra Ballast? We helped him up Tyrley locks maybe 18 months ago and I saw them then but didn't actually ask him.... in case it was an answer I didn't want to hear
  7. I just thought it was so people can't walk down the towpath and look in at the luxury interior...
  8. Well they used to be able to just say Fuel but apparently BSS thought that might mean that people would put petrol in the diesel tank.
  9. So if that's the case then those labels we were forced to put on our boats to stop us putting diesel in the water tank (and vice versa) obviously were a waste of time.....
  10. There's a vertical weld in the bow right where the rubbing strake ends.....
  11. They did some in Kidderminster but then the scrotes vandalised it. then there are these down on the S&W between the junctions. http://mintball.tty.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/sites/3/2014/09/IMG_5364.jpg http://mintball.tty.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/sites/3/2014/09/IMG_5365.jpg http://mintball.tty.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/sites/3/2014/09/IMG_5366.jpg http://mintball.tty.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/sites/3/2014/09/IMG_5367.jpg
  12. I'd noticed that - so much for "special black paint" ... unless that means "water soluble" Also even if it is totally solar powered how do you "sell" electricity from a canal boat? Actually - we've all been talking about power recently.... how much solar do you need to provide: Propulsion for a 45 narrowboat (and I mean enough to allow you to navigate the Thames so you can use the electric nests). jacuzzi bath towel heater heating floor washing machine, dishwasher, full-size fridge I used to know someone who had a totally electric narrowboat - he'd replaced a lot of his ballast with milk float batteries but it needed quite a considerable charge to make it practical.
  13. Still doesn't cover heating ... hate to think how much solar you'd need to provide enough electricity to heat all that water and keep it hot
  14. Very true - had one on the Severn once who tried to ram the prow of his kayak under our stern as we were heading upstream apparently because "the wash is fun to be in". I did consider doing a sudden manoeuvre and seeing what would happen.....
  15. We were in one of the wide locks on the T&M when a Labrador suddenly appeared in the lock along side us - it had fallen in above the lock and had gone straight through. We managed to pull it onto the back deck (not an easy task in itself) and it looked like its back was broken and it sort of dragged itself around. But by the time we got up to the top of the lock it was walking round but was obviously shaken. Owner said he was taking it straight to the vets to be checked out. If he had had the dog on a lead the whole thing would not have happened.
  16. The sad thing is that in a way we've been here before ... who remembers all those stick on notices reminding us to only use windlasses of the "new dimensions"?
  17. But it's not off topic - its just another facet of the same thing : the sort of people who refuse to move over (and I'm excluding laden working boats - although some of the people on those can be pretty damned obnoxious) are the sort of people who moor in the middle of a large gap in the moorings, they are the same people who turn locks on you and who don't understand the concept of holding back at bridges. I too find those people who stare ahead as if they were zombies and don't acknowledge you at all extremely annoying and usually say if they ignore me : "Why, yes it is a good day.. thank you for asking".
  18. The alternator will idle when the alternator determines that the battery is full if the regulator is working as expected. (which is where long cable runs can cause problems) . The problem is when the terminal voltage is HIGHER than the alternator output. In many boats the indicator line is also driving the split charge relay so it is possible that it will cause that to drop out as well. We've always had a power switch on the batter charger and we never run it when the engine is running.. .I suspect there is a possibility that it could damage the regulator in the long term.
  19. If it's private land and the owner had people squatting there then what do you expect him to do? He has a legitimate right as the land owner to control mooring on his land. If he was previously "open" to the idea of boats mooring on his land for free (or a small fee) but then they took the piss then what else do you expect him to do? He had to put up some signs obviously or people would just simply go back on there and you'd end up with the same problem again.
  20. We knew someone who had a ladder which he used from the back deck to get out of locks ... of course you have to take care and you can't really use it in wide locks.
  21. Well C&RT have been - put notices all over the place about the pontoons being private moorings. Nothing else has been done - we still have broken planks and a missing mooring T post ... but the signs are there so that's OK..... Its nice to know that C&RT are keeping some of the old BW policies alive!
  22. The Autoignite point of petrol is apparently 247–280 °C So pretty hot but still achievable on a hot manifold.
  23. How much can your alternator put out? Do you know how many amps per hour you're pulling to run the inverter?
