  1. It was pretty bad - I phoned CRT about it as we came through - it was like this, or worse, for the entire length between bridges 16 and 13 at 10am on Friday morning
  2. A few years ago now (actually it might be more than that) we were working the lock near Beeston Castle. It was a hot day and we'd decided to have a bottle of rather nice cold lager. There were some youngish kids by the lock - I think they were on some sort of organised walk from school. One of the kids looked at my friend and said "I'm going to report you to the police... and you'll go to prison for a very long time". Nothing wrong with enjoying a drink when boating but its got to be in moderation...
  3. Great - reading round I suspected that would be the case... So got to time things so we spend time in Wigan (found a good amount of extremely good Real Ale in the town centre recently) rather than stuck in the middle of nowhere.
  4. So how long do they keep it open for? Long enough for all the boats on either side to go through? We're due to go through to Liverpool in a couple of weeks so we'll need to plan carefully to make sure we don't get stuck.
  5. But you can't legislate against stupid - I've seen several boats with rear fitted tarps with a bit of the tarp folded back and a genny running on the back deck.... Rather than legislate all you can do is try to educate... and be blunt about it... "Run your generator like this if you want to die"
  6. And you've admitted it on here....
  7. Just take your starter circuit relay with you (or take it out and hide it somewhere in the boat).
  8. Hopefully if they did a runner then there's plenty of forensic evidence left for the police to use, and doing a runner pretty much confirms that they are the people who stole it and not some poor innocents who got ripped off by the people who did steal it.
  9. Could have been re-named and CaRT haven't sent me the lists for this year yet......
  10. Whoever put that data in used them... a lot of the canals in Canalplan weren't put in by either myself or nick
  11. When we've given names to places it because they were an obvious thing to look out for but had no apparent name, Wood End corner being one, Roburite Bend and Greaves Wood turn being two others. The internet has led to all sorts of crazy situations - especially when it comes to lazy journalists.
  12. I think that's the Old Ford on the Regents, not the three Old Ford on the Hertford, or the Old Ford on the Lea... We know that quite a few sites on line have based names on the ones in Canalplan. We created a few place names ourselves (Wood End corner being one as far as we can tell ) which we've now seen used on other sites...
  13. There's quite an interesting debate going on over at Canalplan about the names of the three locks on the Hertford Union. Canalplan uses the names given in Edwards so they are Old Ford Locks. Other sites (including wikipedia) use these names but it looks like they've used Canalplan as their source. C&RT refer to them as Top, Middle and Bottom Locks, Hertford Union (most of the time.. .they also refer to them as Old Ford Locks) I've found that Stanford's map of 1872 refers to the middle lock as Wick Lane Lock... So does anyone have any other sources which either are contemporary to Edwards or that pre-date Canalplan going on-line (so say prior to 2002) - examples being old guide books etc, that might shed some light on the subject?
  14. Filled in - made appropriate comments about the fee. Also as Peel Holdings haven't even sent a "we got your email but we're busy" email in response to my enquiry email I sent a few weeks ago ...... whereas CRT sent me an email today about something saying that they hadn't forgotten about my email..
  15. We've done it with a couple of hours layover at Torksey... We did it it torrential rain and gale force winds..... it looks like you should have good weather.
  16. So a lot of it is on the site of the old chemical works - a lot of which has been derelict for years
  17. Apart from the fact that he seemed to be hassling people from Broken Cross, and apparently overstating the new restrictions
  18. No reply from Peel Holdings.... still trying to work out how they are going to collect it from a boat in the middle of nowhere...
  19. CRT on their Facebook page are adamant it is nothing to do with them and they have no information and only Peel Holdings can answer the question. https://www.facebook.com/canalrivertrust/posts/1025873634166220 I suspect C&RT have just rolled over and done nothing to represent the boaters who pay their licence fees.
  20. But boats from Middlewich would do it more than once in 28 days - I don't think Peel are considering different crews.....
  21. So people attending rallies, sorry festivals, get special treatment..... where as day to day users get hit by a fee - basically forcing anyone from the NW who wants to use the rest of the network to pay a fee if they don't go via Skipton.
  22. C&RT response seems to be "Yeah, so what... its nothing to do with us...":
  23. I think the last list I had from C&RT had a pile of maintenance craft in it but as they all had the same name I think I didn't bother loading them as the majority of the searches on the register are on the name of the boat.
