  1. The best dark mild I have had was Gravedigger Dark Mild by Church End Brewery. I have racked my brain but I can't remember for the life of me which pub I had it in.
  2. Has someone been using a Spanish Windlass on it?
  3. Accordng to the Wiltshire Times, CRT are having a 'purge' on the unlicenced and engineless 'shanty' camps on the K&A, much to the approval of the local residents.
  4. There is an inlet for the combustion air, which if it draws exhaust gases in they will be burned in the combustion chamber so will do no harm. The other air inlet is for the heater air which passes over the heat exchanger. This air inlet must not of course draw exhaust fumes. The inlet for this can be outside of the boat away from the exhaust, or it can be inside the cabin where the heated air will be re-circulated improving the heat output.
  5. If you can afford one, would a Reflex diesel stove be better for long term fuel storage?
  6. But memory dims with advancing age. It's a bit like a bucket of water, once full it overflows. I can remember my school days and college days quite clearly. Ask me what I was doing last week, and I would be struggling! Perhaps the Lady has forgotten.
  7. Load up the roof with what you think is enough, you and wife stand on the gunwale and give the boat a good rocking. If it turns turtle, you've put too much stuff on the roof. 😜
  8. The windows can be double glazed with polycarbonate or acrylic sheet held in place with magnetic tape or by gluing Velcro on the frame and around the edges of the plastic sheet.

  11. I found the pulpit rail on my boat a damned nuisance. Being always singlehanded the bow line was always under the rail when I wanted it above (when locking) and over the rail when I wanted it below (mooring up)

  13. A very pretty boat. 😝
  14. Sounds a lot of expense for nothing gained really. You want a caravan next to a canal, so why not forget the caravan and simply live on the boat. You can't really get any closer to the canal than that. Have you a compelling reason for moving into a caravan?
  15. Fairies Hill Marina Express Way Castleford WF10 5QJ
  16. Fairies Hill Marina. Twixt Wakefield and Castleford.
  17. The bow may disappear on a misty morning!
  18. Aspley marina, Huddersfield.
  19. I don't have any property investments, but my daughter works in that field, she tells me that returns on property investments should be about 6% gross. It's true that savings returns have been very poor, but property has largely held up. What's durian by the way? My Collins dictionary doesn't list it.
  20. If CRT are only getting a 3% return on their investments that is very poor. I have just taken out a one year investment bond with Lloyds Bank at an interest rate of 5.45%.
  21. No, simply pushed the strimmer cord into the tell tale untill I felt resistance, and pulled back and forth a few times. I did have to do this twice, as it didn't work the first time.
  22. From the top. On my outboard (Tohatsu) I needed to insert about 18 inches whatever that is in foreign capurtallers.
  23. Nylon strimmer cord is best for clearing the water outlet. Depending where you are, you can get little critters up the water system and they can grow and breed.
  24. Reading up on the web, two stroke outboards are not being sold for leisure use. Commercial and sport use only. You can of course buy them used on e bay, Facebook etc.
  25. If it was me I would say a definite no to this boat. The trouble is you are depleting your capital having surveys done. There are a lot of crappy overpriced boats for sale presently, I am guessing the uncertainty about the future of the canals and waiting for the results of the licence consultation has spooked some people into getting rid in case the price of boats drops. As you have had a boat before, I suggest you do your own due diligence at a prospective purchase. Rust, engine working, elecrics working, gas working, heating working, paintwork. The list is quite daunting, but if you like the boat and the price is right, offer up a prayer to the God of boats and go ahead. I think most of us on here have taken a chance buying a boat. I have had three and only one turned out to be a bit of a lemon.
