  1. does this mean everyone in this storm will die? sounds a bit harsh?
  2. Just now checking constantly to be sure we can make the ring. From what I can see we should fine as all levels seems to be good. Just a remaining tree at Bridge 18A, Coventry Canal but progress on this looks good and should be done by the time we get to it - going anticlockwise... fingers crossed!!! if anyone knows of anything likely to give me grief in the next few days please post back!

  4. yes its an epic but simple journey!
  5. We'll be setting off on Saturday from Yelvertoft so hope the water level issues at Lock 38 - Kings Lock to Lock 38 - Kings Lock on Leicester Line (Grand Union Canal) and Lock 59 - Redhill Lock to Lock 59 - Redhill Lock on River Soar subside by the time we get there!!
  6. I've never done a lock yet - other half always does these as she's not keen on steering. Hope to change that during our Leicester Ring when she said she'll have another go!! I do think everyone needs to be able to do everything on a boat...

  8. Pleased to say my fridge survived the 35oC temps of last week and stayed cold...... phew!!
  9. Got a notice the Soar could be getting high - hope this subsides for our trip in two weeks......
  10. Must admit to being a little concerned about the fridge on our boat in these hot times when we're not aboard....
  11. Yes, easily available and not too expensive either....
  12. I have to say this is what I do - I've never cleaned a brush before - always buy cheap and chuck... I know I'm not very environmental!
  13. not sure as i cleaned mine ... call separ and chat to them - 01923 276 007
  14. if you dont think its a goer you can order all the parts required - see above....
  15. mine was the same.... it does clean up though and you can get a kit with the washers/rubbers in from separ.co.uk
  16. not very elegant, but maybe this helps?
  17. Cant you just wash it? Looks like mine - A Wasp W-30STM/D Filter. I've got all the info on this including how to service/clean it but the forum doesn't permit uploading PDF's.... place to get parts is www.separ.co.uk
  18. is this a good idea, don't they eat wood, such as lock gates?
  19. Maybe the chap has generators as it means he can moor anywhere and people will move out the way. I bet once you go he switches them off and enjoys the bliss!
  20. Interesting view. When we were looking for a boat I liked portholes just because of the older style look. We saw lots of boats and liked boats with all sorts of window styles. We ended up getting a boat with 10 x 15" portholes - I was wary about the light, but now having got the boat it really isn't a problem and not as dark as I envisaged and am glad with the choice. We personally find there are more benefits than disadvantages: More secure (cant smash and climb through it) Cooler in Summer and Warmer in winter Little condensation Easy and inexpensive to replace glass (5 secs), we carry 2 x spare windows Easy to take out entirely for really hot days or for washing windows! Don't have to draw curtains when mooring as passers by can't really see in unless they come right up close. Much more cosy! Just thought this might be useful??!!
  21. Thanks so much Alan, that looks absolutely ideal for the gunnels!!!!
  22. Hi Everyone The gunnels on water lily are looking sad along where you walk and getting patchy, and the patterned area of the bow is very faded with rust spots so looking at a plan to sort. I notice generally gunnels are done in matt black but wondered if I was looking to paint the bow so its entirely black (international black paint - glossy) is this suitable to follow on along each side along the gunnel? Am I right in thinking a gloss paint would be more hard wearing than matt or is this an area which is best kept matt? thanks in anticipation!
