  1. I'll second that on both counts - Highbridges were/are great boats that have stood the test of time and very practical - above all have fun.
  2. presumably this is why you are in Carcassonne!
  3. Thanks - I did in fact comment about location - its under the bed - direct water cooled I think - general use boat neither live-aboard or holiday - we cruise app 7 months a year and usually do app 700 locks - only had the boat a few days so I'll do some more digging about to get closer to understanding your points. Re the topic error - now changed Thanks!
  4. I have never owned anything raw water cooled so this is unknown territory for me................ Our latest boat has a "Whisper Power" inboard cocooned generator set which is raw water cooled and mounted well inside the boat under the bed - do I need to winterise it - if so how?? The "seacocks" are both closed I also don't have a handbook for it as yet....................hence this ill-informed question
  5. Looks like it to me but what is far more important is it looks like a great much loved boat - well done for finding it - enjoy!
  6. YES I've used them (Batteries on the web/Pelion) twice for bulk buys and can't praise them highly enough the service is great and they will deliver to your boat if you need them to and even in my case on a Sunday! - Varta Hobby (28?) is my go to battery of choice.
  7. Well that's a nice depressing post to wake up to...........sadly I agree particularly with post #4 which pretty well sums up our views and experience after 50 years floating about - when we sold our boat last year we had a major debate as to whether to stop but decided there was 10 years max left of the world we love and 5 years left in us to enjoy it so we have bought again - BUT we have left behind "proper" traditional classic deeper drafted boats and bought very much with resale I mind as I believe the only boats that will sell easily in the future are ones that can truly be lived on. We are the lucky ones we have enjoyed the best years - IMHO the world started changing 5 years+ ago with the arrival of wide beams (apparently 3 have been craned in around Watford heading south this week alone) and floaters NOT their fault but a reflection of much wider economic factors too serious to debate here but the canals are not a housing estate populated by insular people they are by definition transport corridors where boats and water move about and keep the infrastructure "lubricated". Rant over...........its still a great place to spend time and a much better community than anything else on offer so don't head for that farmers field (or did you mean marina?) just yet keep boating and enjoy it! BTW I don't expect everyone to agree with me..........................but it will be interesting to see how this post develops
  8. Just bought another Sherborne fireside chair for our new boat on Shpock for £25! as new and unmarked costs £350+ in the shops - result!
  9. Result - the audio in the cup'd just below has an aux in - problem solved - thanks!
  10. Thanks for all of this I think the most we would want to do "up north" would be to go to Liverpool and possibly up the Lancaster as others have told us its well worth it.
  11. Good thought - it will sit above the audio system which may have an aux in or could be changed - don't want more stuff! Thanks for that
  12. Just bought one of these new Cellos but the sound isn't as good as the 6 year old Cello we let go on our previous boat - what do people do to improve it given space issues - I would want a USB powered solution off the TV so it doesn't use another dreaded socket
  13. Now that's a wide-beam that would be welcome anywhere!
  14. But of course - is there anything else? Just changed topic heading - good point
  15. A daft question after we have just bought our new boat but for general information, and only proper cruising routes please (not 2 mile arms), where can't we cruise with a 62 footer? I know these will be northern waters which is why it isn't critical to us as we are Middle England cruisers but it would be good to know. Hope this will be of interest to others as well.
  16. Having just inherited a 2LW in our "new" boat this has all been very useful - Walsh's are already booked in to sort our unit on the 5th Feb. Previous was a DM2 which I loved and cruised for 4000 hrs with no issues, and sometime ago prior to that a Kelvin P3 (good in use for us but I know not a good unit for many) I loved my old Perkins D3 which was glammed up and in an engine room great power and felt good whilst I saved up for the real thing. Steve Gray at the Gardner Forum is brilliant as are all those who I have spoken to in the past week.
  17. Any personal recommendations out there for a good mobile joiner/boat fitter to do a small job in the Stourport on Severn area. Thanks
  18. I was only asking myself this Q yesterday -if you have a 12v SMART TV can you use SKY GO without a dish presumably data hungry???
  19. Sherborne fireside chairs are also very good (with a footstool or pouffe) so long as you can find one not in granny fabric - just spent the last 5 years with one of these bought for £40 as new on pre-loved very comfy and practical as they take up a lot less floor space.
  20. Have a look on Ebay and elsewhere for Hong Kong Fabric swivel recliners VERY comfy and they do come up s/hand I have one at home and on boats £200 ish but bought last one still in box for £80 on ebay if you are down south there is one on ebay which I think he would take £125 for still in box
  21. A sad loss in my 50+ years of boating I cant think how many times we must have seen him always with a cheery smile and a wave - even in the worst of weather, I think we saw him towards the middle/end of last year on the middle GU still going strong so one hopes he didn't suffer at the end. I hope Coronas future new owner honours his memory.......................... RIP
  22. 2 smart phones 4s and 6s with good allowances on 2 different networks EE and BT and tethering (via personal hotspot) has kept us happy for business use for 4 years+ I suspect NO use for streaming though but not tried it
  23. OK so here's my contribution - first boat too deep too tall wrong design and wrong engine and totally unsuited to London canals and particularly to breasting up against other canal boats on towpath moorings - there is a reason why canal boats are so called that its because they fit also this one wouldn't be that easy to control single handed! It might be fine on Thames Wey Medway and connected river related channels/networks others know better than me how that works but probably expensive Second boat probably better but still not really a live-aboard as others have said before me Might be better to see if you can buy jointly with a friend so your budget can get to something better £10k is a real challenge £20k is very doable - try not to go shorter than 40ft or 50ft if there's two of you living apart. Have fun with your project soak up everything you get from here but be realistic and look around you there is a reason why no-one else on the canals has a boat like the first one
