No confusion whatsoever, following rules that are clearly made up by idiots would make you an idiot by default. Probably best to follow the ones that make your life easier and ignore the more idiotic ones.

My brother in law once looked after my brothers Staffordshire Bull Terrier while my brother was on holiday, my brother in law thought it would be really funny to feed the dog Brussel sprouts on the eve of my brothers return. However my brother in law is an idiot and got the days wrong, he fed the sprouts to the dog a day early and had to put up with a constantly farting Staffie for a full day edit to add: my sister was not impressed

It seems to depend on the canal, those with an association that look after them seem to be better maintained. It also depends where the canal runs, for example most of the bank and towpath through Milton Keynes is in very good shape; perhaps MK council is somehow involved. Whereas large stretches of the South Oxford have towpath that are getting to be dangerous to traverse. We are on the Ashby now and as far as I can tell the Ashby Canal Association seems more interested in repairing the banks and turning them into a wildlife sanctuary than providing useable moorings. Great for wildlife not so great for boating. So the state of canals depends on ones perspective and expectations.

I’m pretty sure pun names would be fun to start with but wear thin very quickly. What I really don’t understand is why people feel the need to have their own names sign written on a boat, this must make it more difficult to sell unless it says something like The Jones Family and you just happen to be lucky enough to sell it to another Jones. Either the buyer needs to repaint or live with someone else’s name on their boat. There was a boat on the South Oxford this year the had something like “Dave and Sandy Jones” painted on it, which the current owner has changed to “Not Dave or Sandy Jones”; or words to that effect. I just don’t get it, you wouldn’t paint your name on your car unless you were a professional race car driver; or would you? Pretty sure making statements like that could get you arrested if taken in the wrong context ?

Following the rules is what should be done, but if the rules are clearly made up by an idiot does this make you an idiot for following them?

Worst blinding I ever received was travelling south through the Blisworth Tunnel, about 500 yards from the end. The trip boat that works out of Stoke Bruerne, taking tourists from the top lock to the tunnel and back, lit up the tunnel with the most stupidly powerful lamp just so his customers could take a look in a hole. I was not impressed. I have recently changed my tunnel lamp, due to a intermittent fault, with a small 6 LED lamp. I have yet to test it in a tunnel, but I will be facing the tunnel roof.

When I have made enough I will paint them, can’t be bothered with paint for such small items until I have a job lot to do. Next plan is to whittle a smiling tree with a wind bent crown and wearing a Santa hat

As the title suggests, does anyone know of a good mobile marine mechanic in the Coventry area? We are a Hawkesbury Junction and our starter motor is playing up. The motor justs cloncks when the key is turned as though it is jammed. It has done this in the past and manually turning the flywheel has freed it up. This time it isn't freeing up and hitting the motor with a hammer doesn't seem to help either. So it is probably about time it was replaced.
