  1. I wouldn't worry, aparantly 52% of us don't care what the EU directives say
  2. A fuel tap can be turned back on by someone that knows to look. A small toggle switch can be hidden anywhere
  3. A better system than an ignition isolator switch is a simple circuit that allows the engine to run for say 30 seconds or so then cuts the engine. It can be turned off with a hidden switch so the engine runs as normal. If a thief manages to start the boat he won't get far, he will start it again but it will cut out again and again, he should then give up thinking the boat has a fault and isn't worth stealing. You can make it more convincing by having it immobilise for a set duration after which it will allow the engine to start for 30 seconds. Any one good with electronic circuitry could build one for a few qiud
  4. s If there are two boats the same colour you could unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately) end up in bed with someone else's wife
  5. I think you will find that the reason boats are named is so that you can find the right one when you come back from the pub pi**ed
  6. If you had access rights on the adjacent land you could build your own drawbridge
  7. If it was taken by the same thief I think it is likley that it will turn up in the same area that the last boat was found. A thief makes a living by selling goods they have stollen, and would need to stay in an area that they know in order to be able to sell goods on Let's hope this idiot isn't flush with cash and needs to go back to his chosen occupation, which would mean turning up in his old stomping ground in order to covert goods to cash. Unless of course he is a pickpocket or something.
  8. Snap up a £190,000 home on a private river island on the River Avon http://dailym.ai/2aGAFdb

  10. I wouldn't recommend sharing CCTV files, they come under the data protection act. Also if they do hold any evidence that is relied upon in court they may become inadmissible if they have been viewed by unauthorised parties.
  11. ETA Reckon I'm saying more or less the same as Zenataomm. I've often thought those big Maglites had a secondary purpose! My Aikido instructor used to be a military policeman in the US airforce. He told me that part of his job was to go into the bars near the docks and break up fights between the sailors and the marines, not a fun job! For some reason the top brass decided to take the MP's night sticks away as they decided they were to heavy handed with them. The MP's took to carrying heavy duty maglites. Very quickly the night sticks were returned as the maglites aparantly caused more damage. Personally I would recommend a mini maglite about 4" long, especially if it has a key ring attached to one end. Look up kubotan, you can buy them but the are illegal to carry in public, it it only a 4" baton with a key ring; you can't carry one of these around publicly as it is classed as an offensive weapon, but you can carry a torch, the law is weird!
  12. About 25 years ago I saw a sign on a public toilet block in Cornwall that said No dumping, fine £1000 pounds. Spending a penny! That's inflation for you.
  13. I was just looking at the 3 AYCE plan which is now £20 per month. I only want it for data and to fit it in my Huawei. The plan has a 12Gb tethering limit, I assume this means that when the sim is fitted in a phone it is unlimited but any device tethered will only have 12Gb How the hell can it tell that it is fitted in a Huawei or a phone? We are due to move aboard in 4 weeks and have already had the home broad band disconnected, we are using the Huawei with a pre loaded sim from Amazon. My partners father is over from Cyprus this week and we have eaten up the data allowance on the sim, (skype calls home etc) to get it back up and running, I went the EE site to top up. There were various options but what struck me was that they have a time limit, i.e. 10Gb for 30 days. Now either you have paid for and own the data or you don't, what the hell has a time limit got to do with it? Imagine going into a restaurant and buying a meal on the same basis, the waiter delivers your food, you are busy chatting and picking at your meal, 5 mins later the waiter takes it away and says that "if you want to continue eating you will have to buy a full meal again at the full price as you have lost this one"; totally ludicrous. what else would you buy on this basis?
  14. I just don’t get HS2!!! We currently have a rail network system that cannot sustain itself and has to be heavily subsidized by central government; even though most season tickets are outrageously priced. So if it cannot survive on ticket sales it obviously is not being used enough; most people seem to prefer to drive or fly (which is much cheaper to do than going by train). With modern technology, meetings can be held remotely. You don’t need to leave home, let alone travel the country. So as the prospects for future rail travel are looking bleaker and bleaker. Why build another rail network that in most likelihood will not sell enough tickets to pay for its own running costs, let alone the build cost? Do people really need to get from London to Birmingham a whole 15mins earlier? (I suppose if you are trying to make last orders at the pub it might help) As far as I can tell the only reason to build it, is to line the pockets of the shareholders of the companies that have the building contracts. The same people are probably also on the committees that hand out the building contracts, or in some way related to them. (Oops there goes my cynical streak rearing its ugly head)
  15. Wouldn't it be just as simple to send out a PDF that is in colour? Or are C&RT still working on the assumption that everyone is still using dot matrix printers?
  16. If you are worried about wind getting underneath the panel you could try making a skirt for it out of heavy duty rubber and attach it with some sort of silicone bonding agent. You will however have difficulty cleaning the rubber and glue off of the edge of the panel should you need to.
  17. Just be glad the sticker was not above the urinals
  18. I started reading this thread thinking it would be boring and just state what is obvious. I couldn’t have been more wrong. This thread has made some very interesting points. I always assumed that the pawl should be left on after use, having read through, I now believe it should be left off when the paddle is down. However in this world of increasing need to make a fast buck out of every little mishap all locks should probably have signage to give full operating instructions. Something along the lines of You operate this lock at your own risk When leaving the lock all paddles should be down and all pawls should be in the off position; this is to prevent leakage When winding up a paddle, first engage the pawl; it is your responsibility to check that the pawl has engaged, never assume! Never leave a windlass on a spindle; remove immediately after use but not before checking that the paddle is held firmly If you cannot read English please see item No1 Obviously the instructions need to be a bit more comprehensive and will vary from lock system to lock system. Probably need a caveat to state, leave gates and paddles shut unless signage gives instructions to do otherwise. So all pawls are left off and everyone is instructed to check first. I would include a phone number for a local dentist for those that decide to ignore the sign
  19. Thanks for the link, I took a look and this seems to be they only answer. It is rediculous that we need to jump through hoops due to unnecessary red tape all for the sake of 3 or 4 post dated prescriptions "Computer says No"
  20. In about 6-8 weeks I intend to start CCing, however I am on perminent medication for a heart condition. I booked an appointment with my doctor to ask for 1 years worth of prescriptions, at present I get 3 months before renewal. My doctor told me it is not their policy to give out longer prescriptions and asked if I could get someone to pick it up and drop it off to me, obviously he doesn't realise how big this country is. I wrote a letter to the doctor explaining that I am having a change of lifestyle to reduce stress etc and that I would of thought my doctor of all people would be happy with my decision, and the last person to want to cause me stress; apparently doctors have no concept of irony as they are still refusing to issue a years prescriptions. It seems I'm old enough and responsible enough to handle 3 months worth of drugs but not responsible enough to handle 12 months. If find this red tape rediculous and insulting. It's not as though I'm after opiates, this is heart medication that I have to take. So my question is what do other CCers do about prescriptions? My next step is to write to the doctor to say that I will have to get someone to collect the prescription and post it to me and if it goes missing that I will hold them responsible if I miss my medication and ask that they keep the letter on file
  21. Why on earth would anyone want to grow up????
  22. Perhaps I am just not squeezing hard enough. I may try to fit longer flexible hoses so that I can give them a good squeeze. Got to be cheaper than fitting another pump.
  23. Is there something that can be fitted in line next to the pump to prime it? I've tried squeezing the flexible hoses
  24. The pump is vertical with the inlet and outlet at the bottom (one underneath and one on the side) there is no bleed point on the pump.
