  1. More concerned about threat to life to be honest but I do understand the regs issues
  2. I would seek the advice of a qualified/skilled stove fitter ASAP. I would suggest that you are at significant risk if the flue is not sealed to the outside of the boat, CO poisoning could be likely.
  3. I keep an eye on this page/site http://www.canalblog23.blogspot.co.uk/p/money-pit-costs-of-keeping-narrowboat.html
  4. Kenny Everitt would have been proud!
  5. It's a big world, each to their own. So long as you don't offend, cool. Let's not be herded into a single stereotypic structure. Just be careful when you close your back cabin doors!?
  6. I would say do your research and earn your book deal. There is a wealth of data here, classify and categorise then structure it and write.
  7. Councils prefer to take the oil than have to clear it up when it's dumped, not suggesting that you would do that
  8. We have four bus windows on each side. We like the light and if gongoozlers bother us, we just close the curtains on whatever offending side it might be. I have not noticed any problems looking like a single decker bus but then again, I have little experience of being on a boat with few windows/portholes. I have certainly not experienced a real downside.
  9. I suppose in winter it's also about heat loss
  10. If your kit does not allow a charge only facility - my inverter and charger are separate, I use a waeco charger, allowing me to leave all electrics, bar pumps which are direct to the battery(fused), switched off, including the inverter.
  11. Love it but you have too much time on your hands, wanna paint mine?
  12. Lichfield using 3G iPhone and ookla speedtest. I have not yet experienced bad speeds.

  16. I use the Mrs, not cheap and occasionally refuses to work, will ask her when she finishes picking up the beer cans as to what watching machine she uses.

  18. If you have the chance, also take an experienced boater whom you trust.
  19. Hi We bought our first narrowboat without a broker and were happy to do so having researched thoroughly. You having a marine engineer to guide you is an obvious benefit to help ID issues. So, my view is that you do not need to only buy via a broker.
  20. I think as a voluntary thing it's fine. If the crew want to let others know they are still learning the (basic) "ropes" then I think that is wholly acceptable. No regulation though! I still make odd complete balls up but no longer go red in the face, I often just laugh which I guess gongoozlers equate to "he has lost marbles". Which, of course, is also correct.

  22. Be careful, surveyors will only check that which they are contracted to. If you say a full engine survey, then that is what you will get. But do not expect, for example, a detailed engine survey unless you make it clear that is what you want. It's pretty simple really, just ask for hull, full electrics, detailed engine survey, valuation survey, plumbing survey etc
