  1. I can't confirm one at Hatton, but I've seen one at Wakefield on the Calder & Hebble and I've seen one near Tarleton on the Rufford Branch of the Leeds and Liverpool. The one at Wakefield was swimming in the lock, and a bunch of gongoozlers were trying to prevent me coming into the lock so I didn't scare it, in fairly brisk river conditions. Err, No, I don't think so! They were also discussing how to fish it out of an empty lock with a too short branch, and one of them was already on the ladder flailing around like an idiot. I just drove into the lock carefully, and MrsBiscuit fished it out with a landing net. Someone then called the RSPCA to come and rescue it, and I suspect they simply took it round the corner and released it back into the river!
  2. You stopped just as it was getting interesting! What's the rest of the story?
  3. Now don't be unpleasant Nick. I find a vigorous burst of reverse helps me "SLOW DOWN" even better whilst passing their boat.
  4. Or just untie one end and let the boat drift across the canal, blocking it. Most of them slow down then!
  5. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 10 posts to view.
  6. Park Lane services are good ... We've had many a happy barbecue next to the toilet block. Non-boaty friends think we are mad, but boaters understand. Oh, and the Black Lion at Consall Forge is worth the trip on it's own.
  7. Whoever called that blue one "Graceful Swan" has a warped sense of humour!
  8. It's a shame nobody has ever come up with a list of sound signals that boats could use to communicate ...
  9. I was going to but read to the end of the thread first!
  10. If it helps, I thought he was agreeing with you and expanding on your research point ...
  11. We voluntarily stopped doing it during one of the IRA bombing campaigns, as it was starting to get a bit silly. At that point we could easily dig a 20 feet wide crater about 8 feet deep in a fraction of a second from a couple of miles away ... I blame our chemistry master!
  12. I'm not sure I should mention cheaply available radio receivers and short lengths of scaffolding tube either!
  13. I stopped talking about common liquid fuels and common garden products after it became a criminal offence to post it online ...
  14. September innit. All the "continuous cruisers" that hog locks and VMs have gone back to their houses for the winter ...

  16. Many of the bridges were during WW2, when all the pillboxes and gun emplacements were built. I was looking at some remnant defences structures on the Lancaster Canal recently - they haven't all been built over up here, so some of the obstructions and vehicle traps still exist on farm bridges that are no longer used.
  17. That's why I stopped posting "reported" on spam posts, just report and leave it so the thread isn't being off-topic bumped.
  18. I also wonder what power of inverter he's intending to run off 2 leisure batteries.
  19. Badly phrased perhaps. I agree that having the solar connected there is fine, but I read it as thinking the battery side of the MPPT needed to go via the charger.
  20. @peterboat has got Zings on his boat, and is pleased with it. Hopefully he will be able to answer your questions. I'm not sure if Debdale did his, but I've only heard good reports about their Zinga services. Usually followed by a grimace about the cost ...
