  1. I have had good service from this firm, located in Stockport.. Large selection of coverings of all types. http://ratchford.co.uk

  4. I'm with jonathanA on this one Justin, it's been my experience that a masthead amplifier can make a massive difference to reception despite what the theory tells you. The graph you've quoted shows about 2.5 db loss per 10M with the type of cable generally used for TV and 10M doesn't go very far on a boat! Best quality cable tends to be stiff and too inflexible for constant dismantling and erection, add in perhaps a bulkhead joint and/or a splitter and those losses soon mount up.
  5. Hi detling, I have a handbook for the "L" series engine, if this is what you want pm your email address and I will send it.
  6. As I understand it, the Sky+HD box requires a dual LNB, yet another complication.
  7. Yes, I watched a BW tug pulling a stuck butty out of a lock and that is exactly how he did it. A straight pull had no effect.
  8. I'm almost certain that this is not feasible, the power unit in a sky box is very complex with multiple output voltages. Or it used to be, unless things have changed lately, think more computer than receiver. There is a small Pace receiver available that runs on 12V but these are a bit long in the tooth nowadays. Don't confuse Sky boxes with Freesat boxes.
  9. Our travelpower generator used to suffer like this. I was usually able to re-energise it by running the engine as fast as I felt comfortable with and switching a large load (kettle) at the same time.
  10. I know it's a it's not a serious suggestion, but we are able to move sideways very easily with the rudder hard over and using the bowthruster at the same time. It does take a bit of practice though.

  12. I know I'm not the best of navigators, but wouldn't you need a map as well and also need to know where the transmitter is located? When travelling the summit of the south oxford on a cloudy day it's hard enough knowing which way is up!
  13. I agree with this but would add that a signal strength meter is a good investment so that the aerial can be aligned before the scan is started on the tv. One of the drawbacks of digital tv systems seems to be that they won't lock on to poor signals to help align the aerial like we used to do!
  14. Seemed a lot more than half a mile when we walked the (dangerous) road earlier this year!
  15. We have used similar lights and all have worked well. One drawback is that the pins are square section rather than the round of the originals and seem to be slightly thicker. A bit of work with a small file makes them easier to fit.
  16. Could you explain what a forespring is please?

  18. Canterbury is £9.50, but of course you may get a glimpse of the Archbisop wafting past, that must be worth an extra couple of pounds.
  19. What do you have available right now? Perhaps you could post a menu? We are going past next week and would love to call in especially if you are dog friendly.
  20. I have regularly stepped over half a narrow lock when singlehanded and I'm just 5ft 6 in my socks. Other time/energy saving tricks include pulling the offside gate closed from the stern when entering the lock going up, and closing the gates with the boathook when leaving (going down).
  21. Not a lot of room and awkward to turn in the basin (don't flood the shops with propwash!) but secure. Not the most scenic trip to get there.
  22. I'm sure that I have seen a 12V car demister for sale in either Lidl or Aldi recently for under a tenner. Worth a try?
  23. Someone told me that there are two types of boater, those that have been in and those that haven't ---Yet!
  24. We visited the Cape last week and were quite shocked by the price of the drinks, but I usually am these days. The meals had finished and the pub was empty apart from one table outside. Bar service was impersonal and we didn't meet the landlord. The sporty BMW outside looked very nice.
  25. Sadly it does appear that once assembled these connectors are permanent. Rather defeats the object if they are easy to disassemble I suppose. Detailed info and pictures are on the Farnell website. Brute force might release the pins but the replacement won't be so secure.
