  1. Evening all, Just about to move onto our boat for a couple of years and were wondering what is the latest advice on using a dongle for Internet access. We dont expect to stream loads of movies etc, mostly just reading emails and doing a bit surfing the Internet, any advice out there?
  2. Ah haaa.. obviously an ex matelot!! I am always infuriated by newsreaders anouncing:- "The HMS Massive" is returning to Portsmouth (quarterdeck party just letting go in Gib) etc Mark
  3. I think we may have to try a few restorative cordials at the Admiral then. Thanks
  4. Hi , I'm reading all your posts and getting very jealous! I am currently sat on an oil rig off Scotland bracing ourselves for the storm and wondering if i'll get off on tuesday's heli flight, if not i'm stuck here until friday . The only good news is I should be back in time to spend new-years eve at Braunston on our new boat. We've got plenty of coal and booze on board, so happy days. Incidently, does anybody recommend any local pubs on New-years eve? I've heard the Admiral Nelson is under new management? and we like the Plough in the village but not sure if it'll be open.
  5. Well thanks for all the replies to my question, and I think (unusually for these forums)! all of them agree with each other!! I think a really good tip was to tie up and watch how others do it, it will soon become obvious if they know what they're doing or not. As an old Sea-Daddy once told me - "every job needs a good coat of looking at". Mark
  6. Hi all, I have a question regarding staircase locks and the transitting thereof. In my limited time on the cut, I have yet to come across these and I imagine they can be a bit trickier than most, especially locking up during busy times. So what is the routine please,I need your advice for when the time comes. Are they all wide locks? I know that at least some are permanently manned in order to keep boats flowing and also (i imagine) to provide a referee for the inevitable boxing matches that must arise! Mark
