  1. Perhaps I'm at cross purposes: I was thinking the guy wanted a morning shower. An hour of the Eber in winter gives us a warm boat whilst the stove is getting back up to speed and showers for 2. With all but the bathroom rad off in the summer it obviously takes a bit less, closer to the 30-45 mins @Alan de Enfield suggested. I don't expect to have a full tank of hot water to last 24 hours from that, but then it's easy to give it longer or a second session later in the day for more hot water on hand.

  3. Bu¢¢ered if I know, 'cos mine's the same. I reckon most boats with an Eber or Webby and a standard off the shelf twin coil cauliflower do this. As ever, just finding and following the well trodden path really is usually the best approach.
  4. I've had no issues with 3 labradors (consecutively not concurrently) who have all taken to the boats like ducks to water. Cats are more independently minded so, whilst some are clearly cut out for boating life, the number of waterside "wanted" posters suggests many go a wandering with scant regard for the Ship's programme.
  5. I think steel/moisture/ aluminium foil sounds like a battery and a recipe for a corrosive reaction between the two dissimilar metals.
  6. Check out the GHIC which has replaced the EHIC. I found the following explanation: The GHIC, like an EHIC, covers you for emergency medical treatment when you’re in the EU. It covers the treatment of a chronic or pre-existing medical condition that becomes necessary during your visit. The GHIC can also cover oxygen and kidney dialysis, but you will need to pre-book these treatments before you depart for your trip. It’s also important to remember that each EU country’s healthcare system is different and you may have to contribute to some of the cost of your care – like locals do.
  7. Comes from a corruption of "Estepona"- where some local landowner's Missus came from is one I've heard.
  8. Is there a supermarket within a trolley dash of Stewponey? I suppose this means there must be and, if so, I'd be grateful for directions to update my Nicholson.
  9. My centre handling line is 10mm braided yacht halyard. If there's a case for anything thicker, whether for handling comfort or for strength, I've yet to find it. Need I say I don't moor with it?
  10. We nearly all did this after Boris had us under house arrest. I didn't tell my Beta 43 how long it had been and it seemed not to notice. If you sneak up on it, I doubt the Beta 38 will be any the wiser either.
  11. It doesn't have to be in the engine bay - for example, mine is midships. Closer to where you want the water is a useful feature as less hot water is wasted running the tap 'til the hot gets there. Also, the heat loss from the tank can be made use of inside to boat rather than wasted in the engine bay.

  13. There's a sort of tech support forum / messaging system on their website. Easy to find... if you go in the right way. I've used it before when setting up a Bluesmart solar controller and the help was both quick and effective. Their manuals are not as good as Mastervolt, but they are streets ahead on tech help.
  14. There's a transformer inside so a quiet buzz, a bit louder when first switched on or under heavy load is not unexpected. Indeed my own Victron IP22 Bluesmart 30 amp version does it. It's not intrusive though, in fact barely noticeable. I've never heard the fan cut in.

  16. Although, for balance, an electronic device is far less likely to recommend "a useful village shop" which actually closed down years ago.
  17. Oh good. How does that work? Can we do it in ours which is pretty basic and just has a 'chip basket'?
  18. Frankly, I think you should just shout at them as you pass and use someone else. Not easy if you're headed down Farmers Bridge though, so you either have to detour (I'd make the trip to Hawne Basin) else bite the bullet I suppose. They were good once when round at Sherborne Wharf with the little chandlery, etc, and further back I hired from them in the 80s and found them great, but I've not found them at all helpful since they had the Fiddle and Bone and charged for water on what I'm sure I remember was a CRT free one on public moorings previously. Maybe I just caught them on a couple of off days and maybe I'm misremembering the waterpoint and moorings. If their web info is out of date bolleaux though, that's worse than useless and it perhaps speaks volumes. Anyway, sorry I was a bit sarcastic back there Andrew - I hope you get sorted ok.
  19. Indeed it is - a quick Google would also have told him they're open until 5pm today. Maybe that's saved his next post being to ask you to ring them for him?
  20. I was told by a marina owner that once a mooring is deemed a residential mooring registered for council tax it's very difficult indeed to get it back to a non residential status. Essentially then, I guess the council were chasing the new moorer in the same way the new owner of a house would be chased. Empty houses are not CT exempt.
  21. My engine heated bathroom towel rail type rad is in the return line after the cauliflower using 2 tees. I sized the rad height to ensure I wasn't introducing a high spot above the rest of the system to prevent an airlock. Between the tees is a full bore valve so that the flow through the rad can be full or adjusted for balance. The full flow could also be opened to give full bypass should the rad valves be closed, either because the heat is not required or for maintenance. This bypass also gave me the option to be quickly revert to stock if my idea didn't work. In practice I was surprised to find the rad works perfectly with the full bore bypass valve fully open so there it has stayed along with all the others and the rad is effectively simply added in parallel with the return line. The engine is quite happy and so is the rad which remains in use all year round.
  22. A glimpse into the unknown... The casing of practically everything Victron make is coloured blue. They have long referenced this in the name of some items (e.g. bluepower, bluesolar). When they added Bluetooth to some of this blue coloured kit, so it could send data to their App and hence make it "smart", they used they word 'smart' to make it easy to identify which bits of kit have this facility.
