That hose is for natural gas only. I assume you are talking LPG? ETA: can't work out quite what you are trying to do with the other bits though - why a 15mm compression when have 3/8" pipe?

I don't believe vol 2 was ever published. I have copies of most of the David & Charles waterways books, and there are a few "forthcoming titles" listed in them that appear never to have seen the light of day (one on the Manchester Ship Canal).

I have an ancient Earlex one, almost all plastic so no rust problems so far. 1000W motor. Made some adapters from standard plumbing bits to take a thin hose or a piece of 15mm water pipe, works a treat.

Oh dear Not good. There have been bricks dropping out of the crown of Barnton Tunnel for years - every so often the brick fairy patches it up.

Are bayonet fittings acceptable for BSS? The guide refers to hoses being attached to proper nozzles.

You may want to route (or chisel) a tiny rebate around the edge of the hole for the flange to sit in, otherwise the fitting may sit prou of the surface with the plastic flange showing a little.

A few years back we stopped at Windmill End, opposite the visitor centre, which was quiet. Gosty Hill Tunnel is a bit interesting! (Do the crew of Firefly look as though they need a stiff drink with breakfast ??)

Buy a spare cassette. Or two. We reckon on ~6 person-days for a 20 litre cassette before it becomes too full to be, erm, usable for all requirements, so a solo boater should be able to manage a fortnight easily with the same setup, more if you go to the pub. Or the supermarket. Or anywhere else with a bog! Plan ahead. Sometimes you will be emptying a cassette only half full half because you will need the capacity later, but so what, it's free. Don't empty it into the cut, or behind a hedge, or anywhere else antisocial!

It's the one at the West (Power Station) end of the Yacht Haven. It would be nice if it was replaced with a swing bridge (as Carter House bridge was fairly recently) as it's one of the obstacles between Spike Island and Fiddlers Ferry (the others from memory being a couple of now fixed footbridges and an opened-out culvert)

That sounds familiar - my cylinder valve is the main shutoff, and the locker is labelled accordingly. My inspector insisted that the other gas locker that holds the unconnected spare also had to be labelled. My Paloma has a local isolator, but is copper connected so doesn't strictly need one, and the hob (copper) and oven (hose) share a common local isolator, which the inspector has always accepted. I didn't build it, and I wouldn't have done it that way!

Well done - we got as far as the big winding hole last summer before giving up due mainly to weed. The water was anything but clear - soupy yellow all the way.

I'm not clear why, for a single cylinder installation, you would need a main isolator in addition to the one on the cylinder, unless its an RCD thing? The cylinder valve has been accepted as my main isolator (suitably labelled outside the gas locker) for several BSCs.

I drilled and tapped some holes in the roof earlier this year for mushrooms, and used stainless steel countersunk hex pin head security screws. Being of a paranoid disposition I put a lock nut on the inside as well, although I realise you won't have that option. I would suggest using proper size tapping drill bits and good quality taps, not ones from a cheapo set as they seem to be made of finest cheese. Rocol makes the cutting operation much easier as well. ETA: as noted in the other threads, this is only really good for small holes or thick roofs. My roof is almost as thick as a M5 nut, but anything bigger wild be struggling.

Having recently had cause to have my Smartbank to bits.... The SB drives the relay not with straight DC but with Pulse Width Modulated DC at several hundred hertz, which reduces the effective current required to hold the relay in. This results in the relay coil "singing" - mine does exactly the same. The singing should stop when the SB opens the relay. My SB is an old model with a remote LED status display and manual switch to close the relay, and curiously when the switch is used the relay is fed with straight DC, not PWM. I can't help on your master switch wiring though!

So I went and had a look at the new marina sites this evening... No pics, sorry, it was almost dark! On the flash "Ripple UK" site, a stone road has been laid from Davenham Road to the "sunken boat" flash, and as someone else commented there are some pegs in the field. Not much else yet though. I can't open the council documents site, so I don't know what the development is supposed to look like, but I don't see how they will get 90 boats in unless they enlarge the flash? On the towpath side on the other side of Davenham Road, the other new marina is a very large hole. Jetties are in the course of construction, some with decking, and brick abutments for a towpath diversion entrance bridge have been built (but no bridge deck yet), and although some piles have been sunk for the entrance "funnel", there is no activity yet on the towpath. If it ever gets finished, this is going to be a big marina! That said, nothing seems to have moved on very much. Does anyone know which company is developing this (planning application, perhaps?)?

Almost.... The marina has been known as Uplands or Uplands Basin for at least 14 years, which is when first took a mooring there, and possibly before that (one end of the marina was an existing basin). The operating company was, and still is, Travelreign Ltd, but that was sold to the owners of Natwich Canal Centre a few years ago. Edit to say: it would seems to make more sense to finish the half-built marina before starting a new one. The length of time the site at Rudheath has been in progress hardly suggests a huge demand for moorings.

I think Kings Lock in Middlewich may offer this. Never had it done, but happy customer of them in other respects.

They all appear to be narrow boats. Is the aqueduct not wide enough for two narrow boats to pass?
