  1. I reckon the wives bought the expensive kit for um just to get rid for a bit. Maggots hitting the boat would wind me up for sure. but it`s not as bad as golf clubs.my boat was hit with one when i was passing a golf course earlier this year, how dose that happen. On the bright side i now have a golf club the guy was in no hurry to collect it.I`ve no clue what to do with it never played golf.......Surpose i could use it for... poking stuff.
  2. I`m divorced too and as far as i was concerned I had two choices.I could either buy my husbands half of the house and then spend the rest of my life working like a dog to pay for it.or I could buy a boat out right, take a part time job to pay for....stuff and live a much less stressful life then I was.I went for option two bought a 57 foot boat and moved aboard with no experience what so ever.Madness some might say but you only live once. I spent the whole of last year cruising and getting to know my boat. As a complete novice i`ve had a lot of fun. could write a book about it.all the thrills. the scary bit`s,low point high points.tears and laughter.I`ve had the adventure of my life and I would do it all again tomorrow No regrets.
  3. I saw one on the Bridgewater back in July.Never seen one before and i thought it was lovely.
  4. This one has caught me also. I was heading Back to Braunstone and had to turn back at bridge 109.the winding hole was so weedy and full of rubbish i needed two trips down the weed hatch to do it. No review until the 10 of October means I`m probably not gonna make it back that way before the stoppages kick in .Had a look at the other the routs back but the massive amount of locks have put me off going that way. Still looking on the bright side it`s lovely up here.
  5. I poke a long tie wrap down the holes.Cleared it every time so far. Can`t believe my sink`s too good to eat the same food i do.
  6. I`ll admit to being a bit nervous in locks despite having done loads over the summer,so someone approaching my lock with windless in hand and heading for the paddles, almost takes my breath away when I`m on my own in a double lock and desperately trying hold the boat straight.
  7. A big thank`s for this guys. I`ll be spending my first winter on board this year. I bought the boat in march and have been c,c`ing since the end of April.I was planning on continuing throughout the winter but chickened out and have now booked into a marina for three months.November, December and January.I hope this will get me through the worst of it.
  8. Humm.. I will admit to dismissing boats with crude names.or Mr & Mrs something or other or Grumpy old gits.I think the name should say something about the boat and not the people who own it because they may not a always own it.sorry if that offends it`s just my humble opinion. I know you can change the name but that adds to the cost and the money could be better spent on nice shiny new things for it
  9. I have an old chest on the bow. I can get four sacks in n that`s it.It keeps it dry and there is no mess.
  10. I`m looking into changing the name of my boat. I don`t like the name it has. It`s obviously a name that ment something to someone else and I would like to give it a new name that means something to me as we start our adventure togeather.
  11. My husband and I split up. He went to china to teach English and left me to it.I had no job a hefty mortgage and two grown up kids living with me.Needless to say i was at my wits end as to what I was going to do,I knew even if i worked seven days a week i couldn`t make all the payments by myself. I was very stressed abd very emotional but then while absentmindedly flicking through the tv channels i stumbled on a program about two guys doing up a narrow boat.(I can`t remember what the program was called but the boat they were working on was called RECKLESS.) A light went on in my head then and i said to myself Oh my god i could do that, I could get rid of this money pit of a house and live on a boat.I was so excited and relieved that i had found an answer and set out to make it a reality.I have now been a liveaboard for just four weeks and love, it love, it love it. The road to this point was rocky and it took me a year to get here.At the time that year seemed like an eternity and there were loads of times when i thought it wouldn`t happen at all. But now looking back on it,that year went very quickly and i was lucky that it only took that long. some people wait years. My first couple of days on board were not the best and I couldn`t help but think i had just made the biggest mistake of my life. The boat was a mess i had no where to put anything and it was freezing. But it all came together I have learnt so much in the time that i have been here and now i wouldn`t go back to my house even i they were giving it back to me for free.
  12. I have an African grey. I`m not yet a boater mind but I was thinking of getting a parrot harness for him and having him on a stand, so he can be out with me as we sail along. He hates being in his cage anyway So this may work.we shall see.
  13. I sold my house and moved out a week ago .At the mo I``m staying with my daughter until I find the boat for me.Getting rid of years worth of stuff has been very stressful. I have chucked perfectly good stuff in the bin or hauled it down the tip.Taken it down the local RSPCA shop flogged it on ebay and given it away to friends and family.I still have a mountain of stuff in her spare bedroom that I can`t live without but know I can`t take it all with me.There are times when I wonder what the hell I`m doing and question my sanity. But it will all be worth it when I find my boat.
  14. I also wish there was a magic solution to selling a property. My place had also been up since june and so far i`ve done every thing I can to sell it. The inside and outside are as neat tidy and clean as humanly possible. It`s in a lovely semi rural location over looking fields and on top of that I have reduced the price twice making it one of the cheapest of it`s kind on the market in this area.Still no sale several interested but no sale. Looking around at other properties in the area it seams that very little is selling here so I`m not the only one stuck. what adds salt to wound is watching boats I have found that are perfect for me being sold to other very lucky people.:0(
  15. what I hate is finding a lovely shiny boat on the net.Taking time out to travel to it only to find the picture of it must have been taken years before it went on the market. So instead of standing before a shiny beauty I`m confronted with a dirty dull paint peeling wreck.
