  2. Where else but on a narrow boat web site could you tell someone that you like the proportions of there cratch ? Different language aint it ?
  3. The only bridge we have an issue with on the S&W is White Horse bridge near Kinver. We have an air draught of around 6ft and find it quite snug but no real problems.
  4. Sort of as per the title. Have discovered a slight leak on one of the unions in the engine bay taking water to the calorifier. Question: if I take it off, replace the PTFE tape and do it up again, will I need to bleed the calorifier and, if so how do I do that ? Thank you.
  5. I think the Royalist belongs to the sail training association not the Navy.
  6. Hi. We used to know a chap called Ivor who ran a trade boat called Lepus, we haven't seen him for ages so was wondering is your Lepus the same one or just a coincidence? The one I am thinking of is an old working type boat over 65' I would imagine with a traditional engine, Gardner or similar.
  7. We solved the getting the thing lit problem by putting it in a skip and buying an electric one. Sorry, not helpful I know but I got so sick of spending hours on my knees trying to get it going it had to go. Mind you, it was getting on a bit so was more than likely knackered anyway.Never found it very efficient anyway.
  8. Kinver, very nice mooring and Merryhill, although busy, very safe. Short hop to the Delph flight.
  9. As for the water point, we wanted to use it yesterday and were told by a bloke ( not CRT ) that the water tap was broken, he then told us we couldn't use it anyway. The one across the other side is still in use though.
  10. As above, just tried to empty the loo at the place near Peels wharf at Fazely junction only to be told they are no longer open. This means there are no loo facilities between Fradley and Atherstone. Not a huge drama but I don't remember seeing anything about this, does anyone know when this was actioned?
  11. Thanks for the input everyone, will now decide what to do.
  12. Hi, as per the title. Does anyone have any experience of these small solar chargers for phones ? We don,t have a roof mounted one and can charge the phones in the usual way but were thinking one of these wee chargers may be handy. Thak you.
  13. Many thanks for that. Our booking is for 12 August so think we will rethink our plans.
  14. Hi, been off grid for several days and was wondering if anyone had seen an update on the Liverpool link. Probably expecting too much for C&RT to provide an update if indeed there is any appreciable progress. Have looked in the obvious places without success.
  15. Methinks our August booking is looking a tad shaky. Ah weel, plan B I suppose.
  16. Booked for Liverpool on the 12th August, don't know how bad the breech is but it sounds fairly serious so may need to rethink our route.
  17. I was informed by a chap who had one that they were originally fitted to Norwegian fishing boats, any idea if this is the case ?
  18. The plan is to go from Liverpool up The L&L to Leeds then the Aire and Calder to the HN so, if I may go off on a tangent, can anyone offer any advice on mooring in or outside Leeds and any info on the Aire and Calder. We are Stourport based with 21 yrs experience on the canals, however we have very little experience in this part of the world. We are retired so have no time constraints. Thank you.
  19. All sounds good. As for boat size, we are 45' with a draught of 27" so don'y envisage any dramas with locks or the tunnel. Are you escorted through the tunnel ?
  20. Right thats it, have asked the audience and we seem to have a majority saying go for it, so be it. Ta everyone.
  21. Oh dear, so many conflicting views ! Want to do the tunnel so think we will just go for it, whats the worst that can happen ? No, don't answer that. Thanks anyway. Will let you know how we get on.
  22. Hi, as per the title, after Liverpool in July we want to carry on North for a while. Does anyone have any experience on this canal and any advice on the usual stuff, moorings etc. Thank you.
  23. Happened to us last year, checked for leaks and it transpired it was a symptom of batteries getting low and not delivering sufficient leccy to the pump. Checked the batteries using my idiot proof tester and 2 of the batteries failed. They had been in for a while so fitted new and lo and behold no more water pump noises. Probably get lots of electrical boffins disagreeing now but new batteries certainly did the trick. I, by the way, am a complete numpty on the electrical front.
  24. Hi, booked to go to Liverpool in August. For various reasons we need to go in to Liverpool a few days before we are booked on passage. Does anyone with local knowledge know any safe moorings where we could leave the boat and take public transport into Liverpool for the day please. Thank you
  25. Excellent, have been out for "some" years now but still use some of the slang especially if referring to anything Navy issued which is always "pussers" Old habits die hard I guess. Look on line for a book called "Jack Speak" it's hilarious.
