  1. A friend of mine rolled his Reliant going down hill round a sharp corner too fast.
  2. Wasn't bad at end of May when I went through there. @5239 may have been through more recently.
  3. Not had any problems other than the pound being low between Aston lock and Star lock. So far travelled from Great Haywood to Anderton.
  4. I usually work on about 1.25l per engine hour.
  5. Can strap the butty to a stop on those posts near the top gate, it takes a bit of flicking the towing line and is easier if the post is on the towpath side.
  6. Exactly why I slow with a burst of reverse and then step of with the centreline to bring the boat to a stop against the bank. Trying to stop with the engine will usually swing the back across the canal.
  7. Look up eye splice on YouTube and you will be able to put your own loop in the end.
  8. Not much choice in the Red Bull
  9. We used the day boat from Black Shed once which was fine and the sort of hire that works on the G&S, I would think the 3-4 day hire restricted to just the G&S could still operate successfully at the right price.
  10. We usually stop at Red Bull and then leave early to get to the tunnel around 9am.
  11. Above is probably the reason there aren't lots of hire boats on the G&S. We moored at Saul Junction for a while and I always spent holidays worrying the Severn would go in to flood and we wouldn't be able to get back to our mooring. We only had one delay for Gloucester lock, we had to wait whilst a hire boat was recovered from the Gloucester weir as they had lost power as the came round the last corner and were taken by the current on to the weir.
  12. Exactly the same happened to my bronze windlass on one of Fosse locks.

    Cuckoo Wharf

We usually stop at Curdworth and then in to Birmingham, did do Alvecote to Oozells Loop in one day which was a long day.
  14. I bought a piece of perspex and made a wooden frame for it with some clips to hold it place when the side doors are open.
  15. Have you thought about image size and the distance you may be from the screen. Depending on the layout of your boat you may find you are too close to a projector screen for comfortable viewing.
  16. The one that told me he didn't volunteer to work locks didn't seem to be a good fit for being in charge. He also got in a huff when I asked his name because he wasn't wearing his name badge.
  17. The problem at Watford is they make up different rules depending who is managing, last time we got there I was told 6 boats would be coming up so as number 5 approached the top lock I suggested to the Vollie in charge that I could drop down the lock to the pound below and wait for number 6 to save wasting a lock of water. He quickly told me he was in charge and he would tell me when I could go through the lock and he hadn't decided whether number 6 would be the last boat up or whether he may let some more up and that his assistant shouldn't of told me a number.
  18. I'm pretty certain the couple that went through Harecastle took a phone call when they were supposedly at Windmill End and she said on the phone yes we will be there this afternoon.

    Cuckoo Wharf

Or carry on in to Birmingham, only a few more hours boating from Cuckoo Wharf.
  20. Wasn't there only 25 episodes for series 2, all of which have been screened.
  21. I remember looking at lists posted on notice boards around the network that listed stoppages. Notices pinned to lock gates for emergency stoppages.
  22. Most annoying was the lady crew looking at the goods and the chap on the boat standing on the stern waiting for her to come back and open the gate rather than going and opening it himself. Then they eventually left the lock and tied up just beyond the lock landing for a cup of tea as they had just worked up the locks and were worn out.
  23. Our Craft Insure policy was about £50 more expensive than last year and had changed from joint names to be in just my wife's name so I rang them up to sort the names out. They had to do a new quote and it went down to about the same price as last year so renewed with them.
