  1. My reason tony was mainly installation. Eg same terminal layout, size etc. However it also covered the other points eg not mixing gels with agm with SLA etc. It also meant that the internal construction of the plates etc would be the same so all the bank should age in the same way. I agree with the others tho. If those readings are right the batteries won't last long whatever they are! Cheers Gareth
  2. Well I meant it as a light hearted comment but as it seems to have got you a little hot and bothered quite so early in the morning it obviously touched a nerve. Keep coming with the personal insults...sometimes you really do yourself no favours at all. Cheers Gareth
  3. Sorry was that a bit near the truth? I didn't realise I had to ask permission before joining a thread! Cheers Gareth
  4. Oh well...out of step with the majority as usual! Never mind!! Cheers Gareth
  5. Well so far on this years travels I haven't noticed any out of date licences but then I have been on waterways that have lockies that maintain the no licence no passage regime....perhaps this could be enforced more widely....although from what I have seen on other parts of the system those without licences do seem to be the ones welded to the bank....or CCing as I suspect some would like to call it....so have probably never seen a lock let alone one with a resident lockie. Cheers Gareth
  6. Well if someone else not paying means your licence costs more to cover any shortfall to CRT and you don't mind that then good for you...please feel free to share all that money you have around.... Oh and if that was supposed to be a witty popular music reference I'm afraid it's wasted on me. Cheers Gareth
  7. Cool I will wait for her to ask for my paypal details to send the money too....... Cheers Gareth
  8. Have a green thing.....I suggest that all the people on here that are so well off that they don't care who pays and who doesn't offer to pay someone else's licence....I'm happy to accept if anyone would like to pay for mine next year!....please form an orderly queue.... Cheers Gareth
  9. But at present it does mean that ithe boat is breaking a CRT bye law....however some seem to think they are above such mundane things as paying their way! Cheers Gareth
  10. That looks more like the 2 amp size to me....you can still get the plugs from any decent electrical wholesaler...do check what pins have been used for the positive and negative though before plugging anything in... A company called W4 make adaptors etc Look for an adapt-it 2 on there website http://www.w4limited.com You can of course make your own!! Cheers Gareth
  11. They might be 2 amp if they are small.....measure across the bottom two holes to find out. Cheers Gareth They might be 2 amp if they are small.....measure across the bottom two holes to find out. Cheers Gareth
  12. I'm not sure that's the case if the fan simply cools the controls.....all our stoves cooker fan has is a thermostat to cut the fan in as the temperature rises...I agree that if it's a fan assisted oven it's a totally different game. Cheers Gareth
  13. Although it would void a Warranty I would be tempted to fit a 12v fan and ignition module.... The fan will be a very small load....you could probably get away with a 150w inverter...however I'm not sure how the motor would get on with a square wave or MSW which most of the small cheap inverters are... I too am looking for a cooker that doesn't need 240v for the simple things...seems a shame no one makes one any more. Cheers Gareth
  14. I've found this website pretty handy for river level info http://www.riverlevels.info It's all EA data but I think it's easier to use and gives history etc. Cheers Gareth
  15. What about Morris oils? Their golden film range of monogrades is what most vintage engine owners use. http://www.morrislubricants.co.uk/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=165 It's available from quite a few places inc midland chandlers and some agricultural suppliers for less than direct from Morris Cheers Gareth
  16. I would second that as well....when I questioned them about their vintage engine knowledge I wasn't convinced....especially if they use a contractor.....you might be lucky...or not! I hope I know most of the good vintage engine chaps....or I can ask on here if I'm stuck!! Cheers Gareth
  17. I think a lot of it is how mechanically confident you are....I towed two people the other year to local (to where I was at the time..) yards after RCR contractors had attempted and failed to fix problems on their boats....in both cases RCR's fix to was recommend a new engine...both were faults that I later found out weren't that serious....although both would have been hard to fix without workshop facilities. Both tows were well over the two hours that RCR include in the membership. I did write to RCR to see what they said about their service as at the time I was a member and was very disappointed how they handled both breakdowns...let's just say I didn't bother to renew my membership. I hope I can fix most stuff...and if it's more serious then the money I save will pay for what's needed...and I will have my choice of who does the work. Cheers Gareth
  18. Just to check....is it the mcb or rcd that's tripping?...is it the breaker on the boat or on a landline supply? Cheers Gareth
  19. I find if you are spending money with them then they are usually ok if you ask first.....same as filling with water. Cheers Gareth
  20. I think you were unlucky.....moored alongside the park many times and never seen a soul....there are also good moorings past junction boatyard now they have finished the piling. Cheers Gareth
  21. Have you done the jubilee clip up enough?....sometimes it's more than you think to get a seal.....also did the ball kit have a plastic or metal shaft?....I know there were problems with the black plastic shafts....the brass ones are much better....LeeSan know this and changed mine for me. Also check the ball wasn't scored as you fitted it....if it has any imperfections then some very fine wet n dry can help. Cheers Gareth
  22. Visitors as far as I know. Can be fun if the river decides to rise Cheers Gareth
  23. Well you must be particularly unlucky to find that many overflowing bins.....or just cruise where there are a lot of CM'rs....we have come across full bins but as long as you are boating to more than the next bridge it doesn't take long to find one that has space in my experience. As others have said things like rubbish disposal cost money...even more money if you want to include hazardous waste such as oil and batteries.....money for one I would rather see spent on infrastructure maintenance.....if you have traveled to buy new oil then you can travel to dispose of old oil....most boatyards have the facilities if you ask nicely or possibly offer cash for the tea fund. Cheers Gareth
